Hi Ladies,


I did start another thread about this when it all started as light brown spotting at 23 weeks pregnant, soon after i posted that first thread, the light brown spotting turned red to dark red and today is the 15th day of light bleeding, red to dark red.

I have had ultrasounds, bloods & steroid injections. I am being monitored weekly at the moment, and i have googled like mad. I cant seem to find anything on spotting/bleeding DAILY, they all seem to be once of or very occassional occurences.


Today is bad day and i think it hasd just got on top of me, I am so sick of seeing the blood. Baby is growing and i can feel him moving alot, but I'm just so down about it all. I was wondering if anyone had a similar story??? Good outcomes and bad? I just feel so helpless and i feel like my body is going to fail me.

If they have established that you do not have a low lying placenta is there a chance you have a subchorionic haematoma?
This is a very common cause of bleeding in pregnancy which does not usually affect the outcome of the pregnancy. For the majority of women it eases off as the pregnancy advances and often by the 12-16 week mark but other women report bleeding continually throughout the entire pregnancy.

I'm sorry:( I know how stressful it is. I had it with ds. It was due to low lying placenta/placenta increta and it was very stressful. I ended up in hospital twice on bedrest for a week or so each time. First time around 19 weeks, second time around 23 weeks. I bled on and off from 13 weeks through til around 28 weeks when the placenta moved away and up a little. I guess the reasons etc are different for everyone but the stress of seeing it everyday is overwhelming.

Anyway he is 3 now, noisy, full on and gorgous! it was a dreadfully scary, stressful pregnancy and delivery (he was delivered under GA due to the acreta) but was all worth it!

It sounds like they are monitoring you well, I really hope it eases up for you soon.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear you are still bleeding. What are your dotors saying? Have they got anything in mind as to what is causing the bleeding? With mine it was a mystery but they thought SCH. I honestly think it was an ovarian bleed coz my left ovary was very painful in the days leading up to it and a bit after. It sounds as though you are in good hands and they are keeping a close watch on you and your pregnancy. I think you are at a good point and I know NOBODY wants this but if you had to deliver your baby would be alright albeit spending a long time in the NICU.

Hi, I'm sorry Its hard seeing that blood all the time and worrying.

I saw blood almost every day the whole was through my pregnancy with DD#1. Dr didn't know why, it was a mystery. DD#1 was born perfectly healthy at 37 weeks and was 3.3kgs.

Hi there, I know how worrying it can be to have daily bleeding. With my first I bled solidly from 8 weeks onwards. Kit slowed down around 16 weeks but I was still bleeding occasionally until I delivered a perfectly healthy and happy bub.

Second was better, I only bled until about 20 weeks. Just make sure that they are checking your iròn levels, I needed supplements as I was aenemic.

My obs was pretty clear - as long as there is growth and plenty of movement then the outcome is likely to be good.

OP I'm so sorry you are going through this.. I had continuous bleeding (apart from 3 days) from 6.5wks to just over 25wks. It included spotting, bleeding and 2 haemorrhages (so brown, pink, dark red, bright red, beige, everything really ). It was very, very scary. I was monitored weekly also for 5 weeks at its worst. I was fed up with the bleeding also.. Even now, I still check every time I go to the toilet. I've been more used to bleeding than not this pg. In my case it was a SCH, then a low-lying placenta. Both have apparently resolved. My bub stayed fine throughout, just like your bub has. As a PP said, you are over 25wks now, so bub can be big enough to survive on the outside world with help now. Feeling bub move also helped to reassure me and start to bond with him.

Go in for extra scans as often as you need to for reassurance and ask lots of questions. My OB suggested eating no fish for a while as this can thin the blood (I was eating a LOT before the bleeding started), but check with your care providers.

Your bub has been fine so far and that's a great sign. Thinking of you OP and wishing you all the best x

Thank you so much ladies for these stories, i have woken up today to read them and feel so much better! Although placenta previa is ruled out for me as my placenta is high, it is reassuring to know that sometimes they just dont know.

Jadey those colours of the bleeding you are describing i can relate to. I think i have had the whole colour palette of pinks to maroons!

Koobie, i keep thinking that too, with the NICU, but its 1.5 hours away, im starting to think if worst came to worse i wouldnt get there in time. The hospitals in my area are the lowest level (i think) they take babies after 32 weeks.

How about at your next visit ask your doctor about the possibility of this being a subchorionic haematoma? I am surprised that he/she hasn't mentioned this as a possibility because this in itself should have given you some sense of positivity rather than apprehension as the results of a SCH when there is obvious a baby growing normally is almost always a healthy term baby.
