I'm getting induced at 38 weeks andI'm currently thinking of starting to write my birth plan.what I want to know is can I still have an active labour with showers ect? Also any extra advice from mums that were induced on what I should and shouldn't ask for? I just have no clue and I also want to know about monitoring? Pretty much any info I can get would be nice.

Depending on the advice of your dr's - generally you will be monitored more closely if induced. I was strapped to a heart rate monitor for the baby across my belly and also to a drip.
You can still stay active i.e. walking around, moving around, using swiss ball etc - but I wasn't allowed in the bath. The midwives were quite good with letting me be unhooked from the monitoring if I wanted to go to the bathroom in the early stages and there was also promise of being unhooked for a shower but in the end didn't need it. Probably the best advice I got was to stay upright and move around. I found it helped me feel more in control. Good luck! |

I was induced for my first 2 labours (first waters broke by them selves). Third was booked but pre labour started the night before.
My advice is to consider each step in the induction carefully and if baby is ok wait and see what happens. Of course if baby is not ok you have to go with the medical advice. With number 2 I felt the drip went in to early. I had the gel and contractions started and due to it taking a bit of time they gave me the drip. I didnt speak up And just went with it which i regretted later. With the third we agreed to give it time and after about 5 hours labour started by itself - my doctor was very happy with that after I told him I wanted it to be as natural as possible. My waters were broken although they were leaking anyway. I managed to avoid the drip so I was free to move around shower etc. I managed to cope without an epidural which was my goal but ended up with a csection as baby's head was on the cord and he went into distress during the pushing - unavoidable unfortunately. My advice is take it as it comes but give it time to progress if baby is fine. Ask lots of questions as each stage progresses and be patient. Best wishes |
