I am currently using a sleepy wrap for 5 month old DD, I love it wish I had of been game enough to try a wrap with DS! DH has noticed how awesome it is for settling her too, however hes reluctant to try wrapping it & worried he will do something wrong & she will fall out. I've been looking at getting a carrier for an older bub without the hassle of tying but am really lost on what would be better, also I'm guessing more for DH than myself as I'm happy to still use my sleepy wrap. I know of a couple but I'm curious as to how comfortable they actually are compared to a wrap? Have they just got bag like straps on them? Do they hurt your shoulders after a certain period of time, I struggle to see how they could spread the weight as good as wraps do? I'm hesitant to spend so much money on one without knowing how they feel, the nearest baby shop is about 2hrs away & even then I dont know what they would stock. Any advice on brands/types would be very appreciated.

I've been considering one of these Baby K'Tan wraps after my little dude thoroughly enjoyed being carted around in a hug-a-bub by a friend of mine the other day.
http://www.babyktan.com/ They look a lot easier than the many variations of wrapped carriers because I just know I would be like your husband and worry about wrapping/tying something the wrong way. |

I have an Ergo and it is very DH friendly. Ring the baby shop, lots have carriers that you can try before you buy.

chicken pants - the K'tan is OK, and good in that you can adapt it for a hip carry later, but I found it very limiting as it was sized for me, so DH could never use it. And when DS/DS2 got bigger, it didn't work for them, Instead I got a "Close" baby carrier, which was pretty much as easy as the K'tan (or maybe even easier), but more flexible as DH could use it too and I still use it for DS2 occassionally at 18 months. Only problem is no hip carry option.

Depending on the weight of your baby, you may find the stretchy starts to sag before long. Soft structured carriers include brands such as Ergo, Manduca, Olives and Applesauce, Boba and Tula (plus many others) - they're very user friendly and spread the weight quite well over via the waist-belt. Especially once baby is a bit older and you can swap to back carrying, my DH loves carrying our DS and both of us have done full day trips with no problems at all. DS is now 15 months and over 12kg and still really easy and comfortable to carry him this way.

If you love the sleepy wrap then maybe you should look into woven wraps .... Stretchy wras start to lose their appeal as babies get older because they can't be used for back carries and aren't so supportive for heavier weights either.
For your DH an Ergo would probably be great, other options though could be a Beco (Gemini or butterfly) or the catbirdbaby piccolo, or I've heard lots of great things about the Boba 3G. A nice Mei tei might work too. All have padded straps and all that jazz so are very comfy, particularly in back carries! Where abouts are you OP? Getting along to a local sling meet might be a good idea to try some carriers on before buying! There's a Facebook group for buying and selling second hand carriers too .... |

I use an Ergo after also having used a ring sling and a hug a bub and i find the ergo the most comfortable and easy to use. I find the weight distribution really good as it is spread across your hips not your shoulders like another popular carrier I have tried. DD is 2.5 years old now and we still use the Ergo - mostly in back carry mode now but still on the front on days when I need to take her out of the car into the shops and she is asleep.

Ergo, I got mine online new for about eighty dollars. For me it was hopeless with a younger baby but now that he's six months he's starting to get used to it more. Anyway he's going to have to get used to it because it's the most comfortable way for me to get him around.
You can't have babies outward-facing in the Ergo I've got though, which is kind of a bummer. If that matters to you maybe see if they make outward-facing ones. I don't think they do. |

We have an ergo, but I found that only fit bub from 6-12 months. I didn't realise when I bought it, but it has a really low back. Bub is a leaner and there just wasn't the support there.
I have heard great things about the boba 3g. I now exclusively use woven wraps, and I just love them. They are so pretty, but there is a bit of a learning curve. We do both front and back carries with them, and they are faster to adjust than putting bub in the pram. Just be careful buying your ssc online. Make sure you buy from an authorised dealer. There are lots of counterfeit ergos doing the rounds (especially on ebay). The facebook buy sell swap group is fabulous, and there are lots of photos of different carriers there too. Some helpful links: http://www.facebook.com/groups/bwbss/ http://nannyviews.blogspot.com.au/ (she reviews lots of different carriers, katie is based in the US). |

I have been looking into a style of carrier called Mei Tai. They look comfortable and can be used with bub on the hip or back too. I just have to look into where I will get one.
Here's a link to a website that sells them. https://www.togetherbe.com/freehand-mei-tai-2 |
