I need to get some curtains made for DS's room as he has fairly unusual sized windows. I've been looking online for some cute fabric but the curtains will have to be blackout as his room gets sunlight from about 5am. I am just wondering whether blackout backing can be put on most fabrics or should I be looking for a particular type?

Also if anyone has any websites they would love to share that would be great original.gif

TIA

You will have to look for triple pass or sunblock curtain material if you want a single layer, otherwise you will have to buy lining and make the curtains lined (ie two layers).

I find it easier to make separate lining using triple pass lining. I always find it easier to find an unlined fabric that I like. It also means you can wash the lining and curtains separately if needed. Check out your library for books on curtain making.

Pretty sure you can put blockout lining onto anything. It will also add weight if you end up choosing a lightweight cotton.

I am in the process of making roman blinds for DD's room. I chose a medium weight fabric and brought blockout material off ebay as it was cheapest original.gif
