I'm hoping to get some ideas about prams and strollers suitable for a baby and a 3-4 year old.

We have a walking track behind our house, and I'm keen to lose some weight after this baby's born.

My son will be a bit over 3 when the baby is born. I figure early on I can use my Ergo and have DS in our stroller, but it would be great to be able to find a pram or stroller to accommodate both. I am worried that DS at 3 might be pushing the weight limits for many.

I also don't want to spend a lot because this will be our last child.

The path we walk has a river along it so I don't know if a skateboard type set up would be safe enough..he might jump off at the first playground. And since I want to exercise, I want to be able to go faster than he can walk. The track has some hills so I'd need to be handle reasonable well.

Does anyone know of any prams/strollers that might be suitable? I'm starting to wonder if such a thing exists!

My cousin has the Baby Jogger double in the City Mini. It is now available in the all terrain City Mini GT.
On her recommendation and while pushing both 2.5 & 4.5 years old, I got the City Mini GT (single). As I gave it a whirl the double was lightweight and responsive and doesn't droop when there is one in. Is fairly compact too. I will be using a baby cocoon that fits into the seat to keep my newborn snug during the colder months.

We paid $449 for the single, it was that price online at Baby Bunting and they price matched as it was $599 on the floor. Unfortunately the double is no longer on sale $949, but I'm sure you'll find far cheaper if you shop around.

Not sure on your budget but the Phil and Teds Navigator is what we've been looking at. It's a 3 wheeler with air filled tyres so handles well, and takes a second seat. Only downside with this pram is that the weight limits don't seem to be quite so high as some of the others.
Retails around $600 for the base model. Additional seat and accessories are extra.

I was in the same situation, the ergo +older child in stroller just didn't work for us, so in frustration I took both nb and nearly 3 yo to the baby store and walked out with a mountain buggy duet....

....best purchase ever!

It is narrow enough to fit through doors, supermarket checkouts etc, good for striding it out and good basket underneath. Wasn't the cheapest purchase, but the freedom it gave me was SO worth it! I think it was $600, and will sell it when the older child doesn't need it anymore.

I have the Mountain Buggy Duet for DS1 (3.5yrs) and DS2 (now 14 months) and love love love it.

I'm a big walker and the pram handles beautifully, both on footpaths and dirt tracks.

The one thing I will mention is seat width. It is a narrow double, guaranteed to fit through a standard door frame. This has the great advantage of being easy to move in cafes, supermarket aisles/checkouts and shops. The disadvantage is that in order to save width, they have compromised on seat space. The seats are narrow in comparison to some other side by side doubles. DS1 (3.5 years) is tall for his age and still fits easily under the hood. However, he cannot sit back and square his shoulders in the seat. He sits slightly at an angle and is perfectly comfortable though. Our walks locally are more for shopping, library, parks, visiting friends etc and he is never in the pram for longer than half an hour, so I am comfortable with him sitting like this.

The MB Duet is not the cheapest double, but the resale value of Mountain Buggy on Ebay and other second hand sites is excellent. If interested, you could buy new and sell when no longer needed or look at buying second hand.

I also have a BJCM, i would buy the GT if buying now but I got mine a couple of years ago. DS1 was over the 15kg limit most doubles seemed to have, and tall, so most options were ruled out straight away.

I love this pram, DS1 is nearly 5 and still fits in it! (EB disclaimer: I do not push my child to school in a pram!) No problems with uneven weight distribution, I used it from when DS2 was newborn. Fits through standard doorways and very easy to handle. Has had 2 years of heavy use and is a s good as new - could easily sell it on if I wasn't about to get another year or so use out of it.
