According to the Sydney Observatory website, tonight is supposed to be special because Jupiter and it's own moons will appear very close to our Moon, just off to the side of it. I still have the telescope out from trying to spot DA 14 the other night (didn't) but ... there's no moon out? I saw the moon overhead at about 4:30pm this afternoon. So why would they be saying that the best time to view the Moon and Jupiter would be between 11:30 and 12 tonight in the northern sky? I can't see the Moon at all...I'm facing east though. We have a fairly good view towards the north and south. Our apartment blocks out the western horizon though. Can anyone with a view to the West see it out tonight?

There is a nice free app called Google Sky which helps find celestial bodies. It shows a map of whatever is in the direction that you point your phone.

I was out before and said "Where did that star come from? It's not usually there is it?" Now I know! Thanks. Might go have another look!
