So, had an 8-9wk US today with my FS/OB. We could see our 'blob' and the HB- yay! Big relief to know that it's all real. Prob was the US machine wasn't working properly so couldn't do any measurements or take a pic sad.gif Got told it looks about the right size, but as a 1st time mum I'm really bummed. Would have loved to know details like measurements, confirmation of due date, and HR. Pic would have been nice too.
I'm thinking most people don't have an US till 12wks right so I haven't missed out on that much?

Congrats on the good scan! I can understand why you'd be disappointed to not get a picture of your baby. I had my first ever scan with my OB at 9 weeks yesterday as well. He took the measurements and gave us the pictures, but I probably wouldn't have thought to ask if he hadn't. Maybe some OBs are just better at the "personal" stuff, like knowing that a first time mum would want the pics. He was probably just looking from a medical perspective to make sure everything was ok medically. At least you don't have too long to wait until your 12 week scan, and I'm sure you will get the measurements and pics then.

I would only really worry about heartbeat at this point. I got photos for 12 and 20 weeks and a dvd at 20 weeks. Plus my due date changed each time with us but they just kept going with their first guess.

I'd say get excited for the 20 week scan thats when we found out we were having a boy and you could see so much detail. With measurements too you could tell some things like he was going to have long legs. The 12 week scan was nice but I was paranoid about the tests so was a bit scary.

At 12 weeks you will get a much better picture as well, at 8 weeks they are still quite blobby, by 12 they look like a human/alien cross. At 20 they look like a real baby.

generally with scans at the ob, they wont give a pic
they use it just to measure (mainly)

when you go for you proper ultrasound, they will give you at least 1 pic!!!

fwiww, we have a isc with all our scans on it!

I'm not too stressed about not getting a pic. Would have been fine if he didn't even mention it! I was more concerned with not being able to check the heart rate, or for the doc to be able to take measurements. I'm interested in those kinds of things and it puts my mind at ease.

That's a real bummer.
At my 10 week scan, we could see the heartbeat but my OB didn't give me the heart rate. Not sure if it's because the machine in his room is an older one.

The scans he gave me look like a fuzzy fuzzy blob more than a baby.
The one you'll get at your 12 week scan will be so much better.

So disappointing though. sad.gif Sorry you didn't get to see everything you wanted.

The sonographer we had all the way through my pregnancy was rubbish (I'll be requesting a different one next time).

We had a dating scan at 7 wks. No picutre
NT scan at 12 weeks. No picture
Morph scan at 20 weeks. DVD with moving images (their policy to offer it). But no still picture

I ended up having to go back at 13 weeks to get the nuchal measurement again because he couldn't get it. I had a different person and was given 2 pictures.
I then had to have a growth scan at 38 weeks as I was delivering out of town and was given 1 picture at that (had someone different again).

Whilst ultrasound pics would have been nice I now get to look at my baby everyday original.gif

As far as measurements and what-not - you would have been told if the baby looked completely different for dates so obviously they can't be worried. You'll be blown away at what you see at the 12 week NT scan (if you're doing it). Congratulations on your pregnancy!
