Hi,
Bub is a little over 6 months and the paed recommended introducing egg and meat into his diet. I have two questions, and they may well be very silly.
1. How do I cook the meat? Do I just fry it then puree? Will it puree okay? Steam? Boil? Bake?
2. Same with egg? How do I get it to a suitable consistency? I scrammbled some on the weekend and gave him a drop (as per recommendation) but bub had problem with the texture (it was not purreed just mashed).
Thanks for your help.

gave him pieces of meat and he loves it!

i havent tried eggs..... but scrambled is prob best

also, make sure that you only give one at a time.... so if there is a reaction you can see what it is....

I'd start with maybe steaming some chicken. It's softer and easier to eat. My DDs hated puréed so I always just gave them long, skinny pieces that they could hold and chew on themselves.

We're doing a mix of mashed foods and finger foods.

I panfry a chicken tenderloin with a little bit of evoo and slice it lengthways for dd to hold.

Also make a vegetable mash and stir through some mince that has been precooked with a bit of garlic and ginger (sweet potato and cauliflower is one of her faves)

Today she ate a chunk of steamed barramundi but we stopped her having anymore as it can be a high mercury fish.

Boiled eggs did not go down well. I've heard lamb cutlets are fun for them too.

Other ways for eggs are French toast or a quiche like cake with or without pastry.

Was also advised to give them new foods earlier in the day in case there's a reaction.

With regards to the egg, could you make an omelette (like you would for fried rice) and cut off chunks/strips for him? Similar taste to scrambled eggs, but the smoother texture might make it a bit easier to eat.

Don't puree meat, for the love of dogs!! Bleerrrgggh.

Give sausage-shaped or finger-shaped rissoles (mince only) cooked in olive oil or veg oil, or strips of poached or roasted chicken, or thinly sliced strips of steak or lamb backstrap/fillet (cooked medium, so nice and soft and juicy.)

Baby will pick it up and gum it - and if it's a rissole of mince they may break of a crumb and eat it. With meat like steak or lamb they suck out the juices which contain the iron. This counts as introducing the food, and is also tasty and nice.

For eggs, we did pancakes (egg, water, SR flour), or omelettes, or french toast (bread soaked in milk/egg mix and fried in a little EVOO). We gave DS1 strips of these, or long shapes he could hold in his baby fist. He has never really taken to boiled or scrambled egg, but will happily devour up to 2 eggs worth of french toast.

Firm believer in family food here, and all the social benefits which come from baby eating real food, rather than unidentifiable mush.
