Hi,

I've joined the 12wbt (Michelle bridges) & I'm just wondering about th calories. If I follow 1700 a day is that likely to result in weight loss (I am overweight) & if it does is this ok?

Any other experiences? Did others who were overweight tend to lose weight at this calorie intake? I would like to as I am overweight & could do with a few less kilos but I don't know what is realistic or safe.

Thanks original.gif

I signed up for the last round but found out I was pregnant a few days before it started. I followed it for a few weeks. I was having 1800 calories a day and still losing weight, even though I actually started at my goal weight and didn't really want to lose any more (I signed up because I had just got to my goal weight and wanted to tone up). Once the nausea and tiredness kicked in I couldn't do it anymore - just looking at the meal plan made me feel sick.gif .

I found out about 4 weeks later that I'm having twins, so need a lot more calories than that. One book I read said 3000 - 3500 (for twins). After eating 1200-1800 for months I'm actually finding it quite challenging, which sounds strange.

Sorry I'm not much help. I would recommend talking to your doctor and see what they say.

I haven't done 12wbt but personally i wouldn't be going on a 'weightloss program' while pregnant. I'd be going to see a dietician who can ensure you're meeting calorie and nutritional requirements for yourself and bub.

I am also overweight. i watched my diet, exercised regularly and in the end i only gained 4kg (so essentially baby/fluid/placenta weight).

You need to talk to your Doctor, the recommendation is no weightloss programs during pregnancy unless it is under medical supervision.

See your Dr before undertaking the progam to ge the all clear to go ahead.

The meal plan just seems like healthy eating, it's the calories I'm unsure about. I asked the dr & he just said as long as I am not hungry then it's fine. If I'm hungry all the time it is my body telling me I need to eat more. He didn't care about calories & he didn't really comment on weight loss (I gained only a very small amount last pregnancy so I guess he thinks it isn't an issue).

I've been doing lite n easy 1500 calories and I asked the obstetrician if I was fine to continue on with that (if I actually manage to fall pregnant - we are trying). He said absolutely no worries. If you are feeling hungry though I would rethink. Or if you've had previous issues.

Im doing it at the moment, and have been fine. If I feel a bit hungry I just have another healthy snack. My doctor said it was fine (I am also overweight).

this seems like great advice. I was overweight last pregnancy (still am) and I just tried to eat healthy and stay active. If I was craving something, Id eat it.
I gained 5kg, and birthed a 4.5kg baby, so technically lost weight original.gif

Could you consult a dietician? They'll probably be able to tell you how many calories you need per day to sustain the baby.
