Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to lose weight while breastfeeding? When I breastfeed I just seem to store everything just the same as I do when pregnant. Is there a way or something I can do to get my body to start using my fat that been stored while pregnant instead of it continuing to keep storing it?

Is this your first baby? Are they only 2 weeks old? I ask because 2 weeks is such a short time and your body will still be getting used to the new state of things. Just don't starve yourself, whatever you do!

Hmmmmm I actually found it quite hard to shift those final few kg's while b'feeding. My appetite is huge when I b'feed so I found it hard.

With bub no 2 I walked a lot with the pram and the weight did move quicker.

This was my experience:
When I was breastfeeding, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight after 6 weeks (good genetics). For the first 6 months or so, I found I was very hungry and needed to eat frequently and I didn't lose any more weight until my ds was 8-9 months old. I ended up breastfeeding for almost two years and I lost 8kg off my pre-pregnancy weight. I didn't do any specific exercise so I put it down to breast feeding and chasing after a baby/toddler.

There is a recommended amount of weight loss when breastfeeding. I think it's 0.5kg. Someone else might be able to confirm that.

I think the best idea is to eat healthily, snack frequently, drink lots of water and do some gentle exercise like walking. It's best to not push it in the first 6weeks post birth.

Congrats on your new bubba!

Fembo, not tart.
Weightloss doesn't happen overnight hun. I gained a whopping 34kg during my pregnancy. I lost half that direct after birth. I breastfed exclusively for 14 months and I think I was back to pre-pregnancy weight at about 6 months.
I didn't start to loose weight until the 2nd month. That's when I noticed some of my clothes to fit better again......

I didn't lose the last of the weight until DS started solids and started sleeping better.

I lost weight just by breastfeeding. I eat quite a bit of cake too wink.gif

When I fell pregnant with DS I was 85kg, I gained 9 kg and now almost 7 months after birth I am 77kg. I would like to loose another 5kg or so so I have just joined a gym and going 3 times a week ... and trying to cut out the cake! Lol.

As the PP said, your baby is only 2 weeks old and you are establishing your milk supply. I would just concentrate on eating healthily and maybe going for a walk with the pram if you feel up to it. Good luck original.gif

This is baby number 4 biggrin.gif I love food way to much to starve myself lol. I know the weight takes months to come off but with my 3rd baby I didnt lose any weight at all no matter what I did (breastfed until he was 8 months then fell preg with number 4 bout 2 weeks after stopping breastfeeding) so I just know that I will most likely store it again, so wondering if there is a way to encourage my body to use the fat stores instead of keep storing them?

Gentle exercise? I did walk a lot (with the pram) in the first 6 months. Exercise releases endorphins as well, so keeps PND at bay. It's a double winner biggrin.gif
