Help me with computer (virus), Why do people do this? :(

I'm so upset, lost a major assignmeht 5000 words, plus all kids photos etc. I have no idea how to fix the bloody thing as can't get into computer and I need it for monday. If anyone can give me a clue about what to do. I have tried googling the "symptoms" but nthing comes up. Anyway I openwd a tab in a new page and instead of the expected page a faake federal police page came up saying I had violated copyright and listing fake legislation about how iwould be didned 6 weeks wages. I close the page after about 5 seconds after it had opened. And then ny screen went blue thwn white. And now same tjing haapens when I hard restart. I can log in okay but screen then goes blue then white. I have microsoft secority essentials installed but cant get to it to run it. I suppose I will have to pay money I don't have to fix it . crying Why do people think this is funny!? Now I have to use my bloody phone for uni in the meantime. I reaaly hope I can recover my assignment or I will be devastated. Gah!

can you restart in safe mode and restore to an earlier point in time? IF you can't do that, you may have to reinstall windows. We recently had 2 computers go, 1 desktop, 1 laptop. The desktop was from Acer and had a faulty hard drive and was covered under warranty, the latop we had to reinstall windows, then it was okay. Lost everything from the latop, but the desktop they managed to get the data for us.

Disconnect the machine from the internet and your network ASAP because it could be used to infect other machines on your network You are going to have to boot off a CD https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk download that and follow the instructions. That might get your machine back. That was from my IT husband who also says don't go using that machine that for internet banking etc even after you have run that. Once a machine has been infected all bets are off HTH also, where do you live? If you are close to us my husband could take a look

How do I open in safe mode? The option doesnt seem to be coming up.

Im in south brisbane. I have no cds to reboot because everything was downloaded from ms wbsite then I just put in the supplied key.

Lyra, you're a sweetie. So is your DH. Sarah, I hope you can recover your files. I would talk to uni and explain the situation. I'm sure you'll get an extension if you need to do more work. Have you ever backed up to an external hard drive?
