Hi I was just wondering if any one has any tips that has helped with your child's excema? DS has Severe Excema and has been on numerous steroidal creams and antibacterial and nothing's working sad.gif it's really bothering him tonight and I don't know how to help him. I've bathed him and out his creams on.
He gets bathed in Pinetarsol each night like his pead has recommended. He has a skin prick test booked for late march but that's so long away still sad.gif he's on S-26 Lactose free formula which his pead has out him on.

How I wish I could take it all away for him sad.gif
Any advice would be great thanks x

My niece, not 2.5 years old, had severe eczema up till she was hospitalised with it (it got infected) and they did a whole lot of tests. It turned out she was allergic to eggs and peanuts to the point that if her mum had any of those things it could go into the breastmilk and cause the reaction. By the time she was diagnosed she was being fed mostly solids and once they eliminated those things the eczema cleared up and has been all good ever since.

My brother and SIL used goats milk products on her, not sure if it made a difference.

My son is 1 month older than yours and also suffers from severe eczema...
as you would know different things work for different people, but for flare ups or nights when he's particularly irritated by it we use kids Zyrtec (as recommended by our paed) if you could get some, maybe give that a try?

His pead gave him Phernergan but we can't use it all the time.. Ill have to ask him about the Zyrtec we live tow hours away from his pead so it makes it difficult.

I tried wrapping his hands in glad wrap and mittens as suggested by his pead to allow the cream to absorb better but he somehow takes it all off

Have you tried wet wraps? We also sleep our son in an all in one zip up suit so he can't scratch...doesn't help with his head much though and wrapping his hands just doesn't work :?

We've also given Panadol when out of Zytec and desperate

Oh and sometimes we've resorted to him sleeping with us so we can hold his hands and stop him scratching...not ideal i know.

Just throwing some ideas out there for you...eczema is just horrible, for both bubs and parents.

Good luck original.gif

Sorry for late reply.

Yes he is in wet crepe bandages three times a day. I do the co-sleeping anyway most nights original.gif personal choice.

He's better today went swimming in a salt pool this morning and he seems less itchy . Guess we will just have to wait until the skin test

I've suffered from psoriasis for most of my life and have had luck with : salt water swims, dermaveen/sorbolene bath and air drying, lying in the sun for short periods. As an adult I've found moo goo products really effective.. I think they have a baby line. Just as FYI generally, my skin woes are triggered by strep throat, once I got my tonsils out a few years ago my psoriasis cleared up amazingly and now only have a few patches.

My son is 16 months and suffers so badly his skin would tear open. We use resolve +1 and it clears it up to the point that there is no rash or sores. So far with all the money we have spent this has been the best product to use and luckily we can get it from the chemist (2 doors down) so it's quick and cheap to use.

We are similar to Alpha_Chook's niece DS1 eczema was very severe until he was hospitalised due to constant infections at 3 years old. We had seen pead, allergists/immunologists and private dermatologists but it took a team of dermatologists in the hospital to work out a management plan for his eczema.

I recommend requesting a referral to a dermatologist as they are experts in managing eczema rather than a pead.

I have never heard of wrapping hands (or any part of the body) in glad wrap. This will heat up the skin and make it more itchy. Heat is the worst thing for eczema. Wet wraps if used correctly help the steroid cream to be absorbed but they also allow the skin to breath something the glad wrap would not be doing.

There are garments on the market that have mittens built into the sleeves that are 100% cotton that stop the scratching that maybe better.

I am very concerned that you are using wet wraps 3 times a day and not seeing a improvement in his skin. We did this in hospital and DS1 was released with "normal" looking skin. In 4 days it had gone from infected and dry and flaky skin to nearly perfect. You may not be on the right steroid or you may not be wet wrapping correctly.

RCH has some great information on eczema I recommend that you have a read of it

DS1 is on a nightly dose of zyrtec.

If you want you can PM if you have any questions. Both DS1 and DS2 have eczema so we have been dealing with it for a long time.
