Hey all, so in November I will be in New York from 22/11-30/11. So where is a good area or hotel that is not going to cost a bomb in New York, doesn't have to be in Manhattan, so please give me opinions on areas, hotels or short term rentals in New York. I want to book accomodation in the next couple of weeks due to it being over Thanksgiving week.

I will be coming in from JFK if that makes a difference.

Thank YOU!

I was there in October last year with my sister for 8 days. We stayed in the Lower East Side at a short term rental we found on airbnb. It was awesome!! Very cheap, very close (about one minute walk) to the subway, heaps of restaurants/shops close by. Uptown was very accessible and we could walk to the Brooklyn and Williamsbourg bridges. I want to go back!!

The Preeclampsia police. Check your BP today!
We were there for Thanksgiving 2011. Great time to be in NYC.

You will find that any accommodation that is on the Parade route will be horrendously expensive for the day of Thanksgiving. I mean 5 x its normal price!

We stayed at the Eastgate Tower Hotel but it has now closed. sad.gif

I stay at Travel Inn New York, it's just off Times Square and was a bargain I found completely by accident. For the dates you are staying you can get a double-double room (large room with 2 beds) for $300 per night. Your stay all up would come to $2782 which is great for Thanksgiving week.

Link here if you want to check it out: Travel Inn New York

I also have a review and more photos from my trip on my blog in a post about New York.

Have stayed at The Milford twice. It's one block off Times Square. It's been refurbished so the rooms are nice, but NYC small.

We stayed in a family room in the YHA. It was great. Close to a subway and very reasonably priced. We were there Christmas and New Year 2010.

I have stayed here, and recommended it to two separate lots of friends who also loved it. Price compared very favourably to a hotel room, and has so much more to offer. Chelsea is a great location, too.

There are lots of other possibilities on www.homeaway.com if that one does not appeal.

I second www.airbnb.com

I use it as a host and a traveller, and have only positive experiences. For half the price of a hotel in a crap area, you can be in a nice spacious apartment in a better area
