Ottilie Grace - I just saw this name in birth announcements whilst checking the spelling of a friends newborns name (for teh gift I am sending).
Anyway I have never herad it before and am not sure how to pronounce it? Any ideas - I want to say Otta-lee but surely thats not right? O-tilly? Otil-lie Thoughts? ETA - I just googled it and this is what Wiki says - "Ottilie is a girl's name stemming from the medieval German boy's name Otto. The name means "riches", "wealth" or "prosperity". It has never become very popular in modern culture and has remained very low on popularity rankings only reaching its peak in 1880 when it reached almost 600th position in the US.[1] Ottilie is a much more common first name in German-speaking countries.[2]" This post has been edited by bubmakes3: 15/02/2013, 10:30 AM |

I love it. It's very posh, I think it's French but I believe it's quite popular in the upper echelons of British society. I would pronounce it Otta-lee or Oh-ta-lee with no real emphasis on any syllable.

Maybe I am not warming to it as DS fave toy at the moment is a soft toy otter who is called Ollyotter (said as one word) and comes everywhere and does everything with him.

I really like it.
I would pronounce it O- tilly, or maybe O-teel-ya if I wanted it to be pronounced in a more European way. |

I had this name on my list for baby (other half doesn't like it
We pronounce it the German way Ot-till-iuh, as my families background is German ('e' or 'ie' is pronounced with an 'uh' sound eg Lotte is pronounced Lot-tuh). I have a great-great aunt with this name (I had seen it in my families history book and fell in love with it from there). The more 'English' pronunciation is as PP said O-tilly.
