This is my first baby- I have no idea what to expect! I'm a nutritionist and I know what I should eat but omg ! I just have no appetite at all!

Will you be going public or private? If public, Sutherland Hospital is fantastic. I have had both of my kids there and am about to have my third there - can't fault them

I have no idea! I only arrived in Australia from Ireland at the start of December! I really could do with speaking to someone who knows all the ins and outs of this.

I know private med cover wont cover me if I take it out now!

Glad to hear that the public service is good here- thats the way the majority of children are born at home!

What happens now! Who do I see, do I have to book appointments for scans myself or do GPs do it?

I really wish my mum was here

Oh it must be hard being away from your mum!

First step is go to the GP and have pregnancy confirmed and any bloods etc.

Basically how it went for me was seeing my GP, he referred me for a dating ultrasound at around 7 weeks due to my cycles being a little bit longer. After that he gave me the referral form for my 12 week ultrasound, and also asked me whether I wanted public or private and I definitely wanted public due to them being really good at the hospital I'm zoned to (and you will be too given you live in the area). So he gave me paperwork for that too that I had to fill out, and post to them, and then they sent me a letter with my first appointment date (usually have your first visit there at around 14 weeks).

So first step see a GP, the rest will follow from there

I guess I will find out all the rest this afternoon!

I haven't managed to tell mum yet, her house is being renovated - so no landline in her temp house- and her mobile is off aghhh.
