DS is six months and in the past week slept through the night (in effect) for the first time.
He went 7pm-5am followed by 7pm-4.30am with a rogue night thrown in there where he woke at 1am.

I havent been dream feeding but I'm wondering if I should in order to try and push him to 6am or so ? I have dream fed in the past some success (when he used to wake more regularly ). Or should I just wait it out a few more nights to see if he extends on his own?

It can't hurt to try. We used to always give DS a dreamfeed, and it never stopped the 4am wake ups. That was just the way his body clock worked. Only time has improved that, and in the last month or so he has started to sleep until 5.30/6.30ish. The only thing I have successfully discovered is pushing the first nap back as much as you can, it really does seem to help with super early wake ups.

I found the dream feed just made things worse. It made DD really unsettled and she still woke at her usual time for a feed. I found it was much better to just let DD wake at 4-5, give her a feed then and put her back to bed. She'd then sleep for another few hours.

We also found a dreamfeed made things worse. It seemed to disturb him enough for an unsettled night. Even if he didn't actually fully wake, he'd often call out once or twice, waking me up.

DS often wakes at that time of the morning, as do I. I find that leaving him for a few minutes will mean he has a chance to go back to sleep. I also find that if it's cold he's more likely to wake and not go back to sleep. In spring/autumn we actually set the heater in his room to come on at 3am to make sure he wasn't cold. I refuse to put a heater on in summer, though, so we've had a few wakeups recently.

Thanks all
I haven't tried the DF again - this morning he went through to 550am so hoping he'll continue to stretch it out

Dream feeding for us has always been hit & miss. When DS (also 6 months) was waking multiple times a night I found giving him a dream feed improved things. However when he was on a good run (just 1 wake) he seemed to wake at the same time despite trying the dream feed.

He has slept through twice in the last fortnight (first 2 times ever) but always awake super early like your little one.

Does your DS go back to sleep after a feed at these times? If so I definately wouldn't change anything. However if he is waking at 5am & not going back to sleep I would give the dream feed a try. Although with your update (550am) I think that's pretty good!

Last night it was 2.30am (DH resettled with no feed) & 5.30am, when I fed & he went straight back until 8.30am. Still pretty hit and miss but definitely an improvement.
