If they have charged him with murder (I'm unclear as to whether they actually have) I wonder if the initial reports that he shot her thinking she was a burglar are wrong.

It's heartbreaking if the initial reports that she was surprising him for v day and he shot her thinking she was a burglar.

I don't trust the SA Police, it's full of crime, corruption and every statement/action has some political motivation.

I grew up in South Africa and came to Australia at 15 and still have a large amount of family there.

I wouldn't be surprised either way with this one.

I wouldn't be surprised if he thought she was an intruder because of the huge crime rates in South Africa. The part of South Africa Pistorius originates from is one of the worst areas for crime. It has a large wealthy Afrikaner population and the Afrikaner population is often targeted when it comes to things like home invasions and carjackings. My own father decades ago always said that in the event of a car jacking or home invasion, you 'shoot first, ask questions second'.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the SA Police have some motive here because they are incredibly corrupt.

I also sadly wouldn't be surprised if he did murder her. Violent crime against women is sadly not rare.

We'll just have to see how it plays out.

I wonder why they reported that he thought his gf was an intruder? It seems highly unlikely since it was a heavily gated community and she was present there all night, as there were reports of disturbances from eariler in the evening (if neighbours are to believed).


I think who ever was behind the story was really playing on negative stereotypes about South Africa and it's problem with crime and violence. The whole story screams blame the black man.

I'm giving him the benefit of doubt at the moment. Everyday South Africans live with fear. Murder and rape figures are astonomically high. It wouldn't take much to take out the guards on door and still break in.

I'm hoping it was just a tragic accident.

I also wouldn't trust the South African police as far as I c ould kick them. Corrupt as hell.

Seriously? Do you deny that SA has a massive problem with violent crime? Why do you think so many people live in gated communities and own guns?

It has nothing to do with "blame the black man" (good lord)! Have you actually lived in SA, or are you just mouthing off?

They played an interview with SA police this morning and they are at a loss as to who released the statement saying that Oscar thought his girlfriend was an intruder.
