DH and I usually like names that are easy to pronounce and spell (especially considering our surname is one that people always find difficult to pronounce & spell).
We both love the name Lila but are worried it would be mispronounced/misspelt. If you saw the name "Lila" written, how would you pronounce it? If you heard the name "lie-la" how would you assume it is spelt (I know it's a name that could have several variations Lila/Lyla/Lilah - which one would be your first instinct?). I know that the Lyla spelling would probably have less mispronunciations but it seems a bit cr8tiv to me with the "y". I also feel the same about the Lilah spelling (unless a nn for Delilah).. I also love Delilah (with nn Lila) but DH doesn't like it due to the biblical character (not a "good" biblical character). Also if you have any suggestions for similar names (or names that are pretty and easy to spell but not overly popular) please share! Thanks in advance. |

Our DD is Lila
Most people have no trouble whatsoever with her name, a few people have called her "Leela" or ""Layla" We have seen it spelt Lila, Lilah, Lyla and even Liylah ( Have never regretted it for a second, if you love it then go for it! |

I like the Lyla spelling - however my first thought on seeing Lila (or Lilah) would be same pronounciation as Lyla.
ie all of them pronounced 'Lie-la' |

I have a good friend with a daughter called Lila. I thought 'lie-la' pronounciation straight away however many people do say it wrong. Lee-la is the most common way people incorrectly say her name.

I used to read the Sweet Valley series when I was younger. Lila Fowler was always Lie-la to me!

I would pronounce it [LIE-la]. I wouldn't assume any one spelling. I would have to ask.
