hi,

I nearly cried and felt quite down, very annoyed as I just changed my boy's clothes again, within 5 mins!

I examined his MCN. He had two inserts, only changed 5 mins before. The front was a bit wet, not v soaked; back was a bit dry. I think I already placed the inserts high at the end-- around waistline. ( How high would u put, a bit higher than waistline?) He just had a 180 ml bottle, now four months.

This morning, I found his bedsheet where his back laid was wet, and the same spot for his bodysuit.

Yesterday, I needed to change his clothes, blankets EVERYTIME i change his nappies, cos they were wet!

I am really tired of changing his clothes for every nappy change, doing all those washing. This will be even worse when the winter comes.

Please tell me what I have done wrong?

I don't want to give up to MCN.

Here are a couple of things to try, they may or may not work.

1) Are they on tight enough? You should be able to put your fingers between the nappy and baby, but have it sit flush to the skin when on.
2) How are they being cared for? If you use fabric softener or enzyme detergent, it can build up and reduce absorbancy, especially if they are second hand.
3) Do you use nappy creams (such as sudocreme)? These can stick to the nappy and reduce absorbancy, if you use them you need a liner.
4) Are they the right size/shape for your baby? Different babies have different shaped bums, a nappy that suits one may not suit another.
5) Do your nappies need a shell/cover? Are they waterproof?
6) Have any waterproof parts being put into a tumble dryer? This kills the waterproofing.

I would start with a strip wash, basically a hot wash with no detergent. This can remove any residies that may be reducing absorbancy.

i bought it new from the seller, no fabric softener, enzyme detergent. i've washed it with baking soda a few times to remove built up washing detergent.

sometimes used , but i also used liners for most of the time

that's a one size fit all, so they have a bit big at the moment. i adjusted it to the smallest with its tab.

yes, with a cover, i think so. 0r as described in the seller's web

no, i don't have a dryer.

What brand nappies are you using? pockets or prefolds and covers?? What are the inserts - bamboo, hemp, microfiber??
How old are the nappies/inserts - were they new or 2nd hand?

DD didn't fit well into one-size-fits-all until she was 5 months old so you may find it gets better soon.

The inserts need to be completely encolsed by whatever cover you are using, so it is possible if they are in a spot to fix the sizing, then they may be outside the cover. I would start by trying to get the cover a bit tighter.

Which nappies are they? How long have you had them? Have they ever worked well for you?

So the inserts aren't getting very wet, but it's leaking everywhere?

It looks to me like it's either a sizing issue (so the nappy isn't tight enough and there's space for wee to get out) or you've got buildup of something (which is affecting the nappy's ability to absorb the wee). If it's the first issue check all of the edges - waistband, around the legs (a common place for wee to get out) to see if everything is tight enough. If it's the second, do a stripwash.
