So I'm home alone with two little kids and have accidentally cut underneath my two smallest toes on one foot. I may need stitches as the cuts are quite deep, but the bleeding has stopped. I have bandaged it fine and I can wiggle them.I don't have anyone to look after my kids at this time of night, and I'm not in pain so was thinking of holding off till the morning then heading into the local hospital. Is there any time limit that stops them being able to put stitches in if they are neededThanks in advance for any replies

Hi, the one time I had to go in for stitches I did it at night and waited until morning, the doctor was not happy as the edges of the cut had already started to heal so he had to scrap the edges of the cut to stitch is so that the scar would be flatter and cleaner but I'm thinking under a toe wont matter so much maybe.

It's better to get it stitched as soon as possible after the injury so if possible I would see if you could get it seen to tonight. Is there are medical centre near by that you could go to and have it stitched up? Might be easier with the kids.

It may just heal on it's own. Just go to your GP tomorrow and get it checked out. I wouldn't go to the hospital, no need.

Depending on what states you are living in, you ambulance service may have "extended care paramedics" or similar, who can suture such areas. Maybe try giving your state's non-000 number a call and explain your circumstances and see

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to leave it till morning, I just can't face getting a two and four year old out of bed to drive 30mins into hospital. Will try and get to the gp early in the morning

My understanding is that within 6 hours is optimal but they can do up to 24 hours in some cases.

This is not medical advice...

I've used super glue on both DS and DH. It works wonderfully as long as it's a clean cut, the bleeding has stopped, and you're able to hold the edges together so you're gluing the outside bits of the skin. No stitches were required it either case.

OP if the cut has stopped bleeding and it is not too painful then I think a visit to the GP in the morning will be ok.
If the wound has started to heal and it is clean then they may decide to let it heal by itself. If it starts to bleed profusely then you may have to change your plans.

I would not be using super glue myself. It is not ideal for some wounds so best for a professional to decide if it is OK or not.
