DH and I both love the name Claude, our surname is one syllable starting with R.

Do you think this could work? I just don't know.

We also have a one syllable surname.... we won't use a one syllable first name as we don't like the 'choppy' sound. BUT if you really like Claude then go for it!

It might. Just think of all the examples you already know and know of. How do they sound and how does Claude X sound in comparison? Then decide. I'm a Claude fan but I'd still suggest this if I wasn't original.gif

I know some people wouldn't but I think it can depend on the names...eg think of these actors:

Claude Rains
Rose Byrne
Hugh Grant

Do you have a problem with these?

I think in fact Rosa Byrne or Hugh Grantham which would be more "correct" just don't sound as good! Or is it just that I'm used to them and they're attractive people...

I have a one syllable surname - when I hear people introduce me as 'Mel *surname*' it always sounds really stupid to me.

I never introduce myself by the one syllable diminutive of my three syllable name - I can see what my parents were thinking.

Claude is however a rather awesome name!

What if he uses his middle initial too when introducing himself (at some future event where your as yet unborn son needs to do so in front of a group of strangers!)? That should solve the problem... because I DO want you to use Claude!

It's longish sounding, so I think it would be fine.

Just came back to add Claude is a great name, and I imagine it would work with most 1 syllable last names!

I think its absolutely fine. The one syllable pairing doesn't bother me at all. As the PP mentioned there are some talented and attractive people with one syllable first and lasts. Here are some other examples that come to mind. Unfortunately not as attractive and talented perhaps lol :-)

Wayne Swan
Mae West
Eve Lomb
