I am due in a week and we can't agree - help!
Sirname is Irish, 3 syllables and starts with M, so I don't want a first name starting with M (am against MM). DS1s first name is an uncommon Irish name of 2 syllables starting with K. We are about to have DS2. We don't want anything too common. List so far is; Otis Jonah (I love this but DH has pretty much banned it) Oran Flyn Rafferty (Rafi) - We love the nickname Rafi. I know people probably prefer Raphael, but really, we have Irish ancestry and no Italian, and it doesn't sit right. If we had any Italian history I would go Raphael but think it sounds silly with our other names and sirname. - ETA I stand corrected with Raphael being a Hebrew name. I guess it could work, but for some reason just doesn't go with our last name as well. Any opinions or suggestions? This post has been edited by libbylu: 12/02/2013, 10:21 PM |

What does Italian have to do with it? Raphael/Rafael is a Hebrew name, as is Jonah which you have on your list so I'm presuming that doesn't rule out names automatically.
I get that you have an Irish background but Rafferty is all surname to me. Of your list my pick would probably be Oran. |

I absolutely love Jonah. I would have used it for sure if my last name was different.

Unfortunately Jonah is the only one on the list I like - but I wouldn't recommend going against your DH's wishes on the name.
Flynn is okay but I prefer this spelling. I really dislike both Otis and Rafferty. |

It troubles me a little that Rafferty, while Irish, is actually a last name not a first name.

I like Otis the best.
(And Jonah, but I think it's best if both parents like the name somewhat) |
