I need to buy my 4 year old daughter her first single big girl bed. She's currently in a Boori cot toddler bed.
I would prefer a white wooden bed that doesn't have a footend, but it seems that 99% of beds do. I find that take up more room and would prefer just the bedhead. I've only found one that I like but it's pricey - so before I take the plunge can someone please explain why footends are so popular.... am I missing an important consideration??? Thanks! |

I hated having a bed with no foot end as my doona would continually slide off the end of the bed. Guess this would be a pain with a kids bed as well??

I'm posting simply to see if anyone has suggestions on footend-less beds. I'm after a nice timber bed for DS1 that doesn't have a footend on it as he's still in his Boori cot in toddler bed form too. At nearly 3.5 he's starting to get too big.
I hate having ends on beds and much prefer the feeling of openess the room. Plus I like being able to sit on the bed wherever. We have no problems with our doona sliding off (cotton sheets, cotton doona cover, cotton pjs). |

Not sure why most have footends. But when I was looking for DD's first bed I couldn't find anything I liked. The closest thing to what I wanted was in an independent store (not one of the big names). They ended up custom making the bed how I wanted it. I remember them asking how I wanted the footend to be (we went with a low one). I'm so happy with it and it didn't cost a fortune either.
Maybe you could have a bed altered to have no footend. |

We just bought box spring singles and had bought a separate headboard at one of our local furniture places and attached it to the wall.

Have you looked at Ikea? I don't know that it is the best quality, but it is white, wooden, and no foot end.
http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20214547/ And there is this one from fantastic furniture. Again, not sure about the quality.. http://www.fantasticfurniture.com.au/Produ...BEDSGLOOOMDFWHI And a plain wooden one from FF for namie. http://www.fantasticfurniture.com.au/Produ...BEDSGLOOOTIMMAP Super a-mart have a few that sort of have foot ends, they look like they sit at around about the same height as the mattress. http://www.superamart.com.au/bedroom/beds/.../glacier-40102/ and http://www.superamart.com.au/bedroom/beds/...le/nadia-38758/ |

'Bunkers' beds have a couple of single bed options without footends. One is more fancy (turned legs) and more pricey but the other 'standard bed' is $277, which seems reasonable.

If you don't like the foot, then but it without it. Most have a head and a foot, as they have a slatted base, thereby reducing the cost.
Only having a head means needing a mattress, base and a bed head. Hope that makes sense? |

Fantastic Furniture have a couple of singles without foot ends, we got DS's from there a few years ago and have been happy with the quality.

I bought a wooden bed from Fantastic Furniture approx 2 years ago. It has a bedhead but no footend - just a standard bed really.
ETA - I just saw what PP wrote - THIS is the bed I bought. This post has been edited by belinda1976: 11/02/2013, 10:45 PM |
