The tenants in the investment property we've just sold have asked if they can buy the washer and dryer from us. We were going to list them for sale on gumtree so this works out well for us.

I have no idea how much to ask for them. The washing machine (I think it's about 8kg, pretty big, top loader) is about ten years old, seems to work fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if it died in the near future. The dryer is about five years old. Both are Simpson brand.

I was thinking about $180 for both? Is that too little? Too much? I don't mind giving them a pretty good deal, but we could really use the money as well.

You could check Gumtree, trading post or Ebay to see what similar items sell for.

For a quick sale, I reckon $250 for both is a great price.

Seriously, white goods are so cheap these days to buy new. They are virtually worthless second hand.

I could not sell something that is 5 and 10 years old in good conscience. You said
yourself the washer may stop working soon. 5 years is considered a reasonable life for white goods nowadays. Not saying it's right...

If these people were your tenants and presumably good ones I would just give them to them.

I think $180 is too much. I would pay nothing for a 10yo washing machine! Dryers are cheap too, and yours is 5 yo - maybe $50 for both?

I recently sold my 7.5kg three year old top loader for $130 with a known lint filter issue. Advertised at $180 with delivery but they picked it up and it wasn't perfect so I was happy to drop the price.

I bought a week earlier, a 3 year old 7.5kg front loader for $150. I went and picked it up myself.


That being said, where I live, you can't buy white goods. The postage to here is about $200 on top of purchase price. In the cities, I could pick up ones cheaper.

Dryers on the other hand would sell for hundreds out here! Too hard to come by

For appliances that old, I wouldn't think you could sell them at all. If they're willing to pay that, good luck to them, but I think it's a little much.

I paid $50 for a 10 year old washing machine that was reconditioned (not refurbished like I wrote) through the paper a little while back.
