Morning!

Just wanting to double check what to do if anything.

We've been really really lucky in that our DS (18mths) has pretty much never been sick (not counting teething and colds), so forgive me for sounding so ignorant.

He fed at about 6am yesterday and when he finally got up at 8, he just threw the whole lot up. He seemed happy enough though, not whingy, a little quieter than usual, but ok. He didn't eat much during the day, then at dinner time, did quite a squirty poo. Again he was quietish but ok. Slept about 11hours, then within half hour of waking is asleep again after having had some breast milk.

He seems a little pale and was completely uninterested when DP left for work, didn't wave and kiss as normal, just stared at tv.

Now I realise this is all normal and just a bug of some kind, but at what point do you worry? Should I be giving him water or something slightly sweetened (juice?) or just keep myself hydrated so I can give him as much milk as he wants. Is there anything I should avoid giving him?

What signs would make you take him to the doctor if at all?

Thanks!

Just keep giving him sips of fluid so he doesnt get dehydrated. just like you would if you had a tummy bug. i wouldnt worry too much, one vomit and one poo is ok. if he is vomiting up every sip of water then take him to the doctor.

I would offer water as well if he has the runs. Keep an eye on his temp is it gets high, is not controllable by panadol take him to your GP.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
Breast milk is probably the best thing you can do for him. If he's off solid food, don't stress, just offer breastmilk as often as possible. It will sustain and hydrate him.

If he's drinking fluids and still having wet nappies then you don't have to worry. If he continuously couldn't keep the fluids down that's when you should take him to the doctor. Sleeping a lot is his body's way of fighting the bug.

If you want a bit of extra hydration there are pedialyte or gastrolyte ice blocks (from the chemist) which are tempting if they are under the weather and don't want to eat . Plus the sucking is comforting.

As per PPs.

Lots of breastmilk (but not dairy - that goes rancid in a bad tummy!) water and if he's not eating again in a day or so see a Dr. If you want reassurance take him to the Dr today.

I needed lots of reassurance with my first original.gif

Hope he's feeling better soon.

Gastrolyte satchets made up with water. Either give them as a bottle or squirt 10mls every (x) much into his mouth. The instructions on the side of the pack say how much per hour according to weight and age so you will need to work out the amount. Hence the (x) above.
