This new article has just been published - New Zealand's Most Popular Baby Names: Top 100 Lists for Girls and Boys in 2012

Lots of names that are popular is Australia as well made the list as well as some which are much less common here. Interesting to see shorter versions of names (Nate as opposed to Nathan for example) made the top 100.

I find the boy's list more interesting than the girl's. Lots of names on the top hundred boy's I prefer to other lists I'm used to. Kingston, Leon, Marcus, Phoenix, Israel, Asher? I like all of those but I wasn't expecting to see them break a top hundred.

I am surprised Hazel was on the girls list. I think it's a beautiful name. I had no idea it had grown so much in popularity.

I didn't realise Neveah was so popular... I'd assumed that was an internet myth.

Braxton? As in Hicks? Apologies to anyone who loves this name or has one, but that's terrible!

I haven't seen any aussie top 100 lists in a while, are the NZ/AU ones very similar?

Interesting to see the spelling Khloe there! Also Maia whereas in Aus it seems to be mostly Maya.

Also Riley in the girls, seems to be more boys in Aus.

Interested to see Zion in the boys.

One of my daughters has two friends in NZ called Maia (and spelled that way) and the other one knows a couple of Alexis's! Not surprised they are popular then..
