Settle an argument for me.

In what order do you wash your dishes?

I'll start. Place cutlery on the bottom of the sink. Cups, small plates, large plates, bowls and cutlery.

Refill sink. Wash pots and pans.

Ta-daaa!

You?

Con Sprezzatura.
Whatever order they're stacked in, except that the container I use to collect scraps to go into the compost is always washed last.

Pretty much the same, but I don't refill for pots and pans. I only use hot water, and I don't add detergent til the sink is full. I don't understand why people waste detergent on bubbles.

Semper Fi. You rat, you fry.
Cutlery and cups first.
Plates
Bowls
Pots/pans/containers

It's much easier to stack the dish rack that way and i use the rinsing side of the sink to stack the cups that don't fit on those little holdy thingos on the side of the dish rack and the pots and pans.

Fill the sink with hot water and detergent, add cutlery to soak in the bottom. Wash plastics first, then plates, bowls etc, then cutlery, then pots and pans, finishing off with the greasiest of dishes.

I will refill the sink half way through (and as often as needed) if the meal was particularly greasy and all the soap suds have gone/there is a rim of oil on the surface. This happens on days when we have more than just our family in attendance or if I'm helping wash up after my Gran's Christmas lunch.

Way back, when such things were considered important I was taught in my "Home Economics" class that the best (and only!) order to wash up was

1. Glassware
2. Silverware (cutlery)
3. Chinaware
4. Kitchen Utensils
5. Pots and pans.

The sink should not be stacked before filling, only items of a particular group should be added at any one time.
