Hi mummy's!

When my little bubba was born we were told he has a heart murmur. On Friday we went to see the cardiologist and we were told he has a small hole (about 2mm) in the bottom of his heart. We were told if he is sleepy and lethargic to see our doctor. He sleeps for about 7-8 hours during the night then wakes do a quick feed and then goes back to sleep for 2-3 hours plays has a feed and then plays for a bit more then goes back to sleep for another 2 hours. After that he usually cat naps for the rest of the afternoon.

So my question is how long does your baby sleep for. I'm not sure if he is a really good sleeper or if it is something more serious. He is 2 months old.

How old is he OP?

My 2 month old sleeps for roughly 14/15 hours a day. He sleeps well at night but only has one decent nap a day, all the rest is catnapping.

My 3 month old sleeps 11 hrs overnight then has one or two catnaps (45 mons) in the morning a one longer sleep in the afternoon (anything from 90 mins to 3hrs) - but the longer sleep is always in my arms!
In contrast, my niece was a very sleepy baby and was barely awake - maybe only 4 hrs a day until she was almost 6 months!

Wow, I panic if my 7 weeker sleeps 5 hours overnight! But I know of babes sleeping through from 8 weeks, so they are all different.

I'd be more interested in what bubs is like awake. Does he feed well and often enough over 24 hours? Is he putting on weight? Does he play, smile and interact with you during his awake times? If so, I do 't think that would count as a sleepy and lethargic baby, just a good night sleeper.... Lucky you!

Hi OP, don't worry - he's certainly not sleeping too much. But like others have said, it depends on how old he is.

My baby is 8 weeks old told and she sleeps pretty much the same as your son, she sleeps around 6-7 hours of a night wakes for a feed and then back down for 3 hours, during the day she will have around 2-3 1.5-2hr naps with 1 or 2 40 minute cat naps. I guess as others have said I would be looking at how he is when awake.

Hi, you call up the Cardiologist to ask for more information regarding the sleeping if you are concerned that your baby does sleep too much or if you need more information on what constitutes "sleepy and lethargic".
You might also find your GP can answer these questions and if you have CHN she also should be able to help you clarify what you do and don't need to be concerned about in relation to his cardiac condition.
I'd encourage you to seek clarification from one of the above health professionals considering it relates to a cardiac condition and you are feeling unsure.
