I know some ppl won't agree with what I want to do but willing to ask anyway.

I am being bridesmaid at my friends wedding in a month, and just worked out I will have my period on the big day. I am a heavy bleeder and we all know how unconfortable AF can be and I often have to change pads 4-5 times during the day. I was wanting to try and skip my period or at least delay it for 3 days. I have a sample pack of Yaz and Qlaira from the doctor that I got after having my 2nd DS that I decided I wouldn't go on the pill.



So my question is can I start taking the pill on say 10 of my cycle and manage to miss my period due in a month then stop taking them the day after the wedding? I am due for AF tomorrow. I don't really want to take them for a month as I'm worried about the side effects I might get with it so want to take the least amount as I can. Also what one would be better to use the Yaz or Qlaria?

If it can't be done I'll just have to put up with it and running off to the bathroom through the wedding to change and chk for leakage


Ps. I have never been on a pill before so don't know how if will effect me.

If you are due for AF tomorrow, won't that be day one of your cycle? You need to start the pill packet in the red section, and then at the end of the month don't take the sugar pills but continue with hormonal pills from a new packet. It always works for me and is fine to do according to most doctors I've seen.

You will have to take it for the full month I think to make it work, the results would be rather unpredictable otherwise.

Starting the pill on day 10 is unlikely to be successful.

What I would do though is visit a GP and make sure the pills you have are suitable (combined pill is what you need) and I would not mix two different types, I would get a prescription for one type and have it filled.

I think Day 10 is probably too late to have any surety that it will be effective. Pills which have a sugar pill break would normally mean you start taking the real ones on around day 5.

How old are the sample packs you have?

From the Bayer Website: Do not use YAZ if you smoke and are over age 35. Smoking increases your risk of serious side effects from the Pill, which can be life-threatening, including blood clots, stroke or heart attack. This risk increases with age and number of cigarettes smoked.

Thank you ladies, The packs are still in date. I might just have to take a month's worth then and hope for no side effects. I wouldn't care if I was on day 3 of AF at the wedding it's just I bleed so much in that first day :-(

So take the first tablet when I get AF?

The Doctor left it up to me to decide what brand I wanted to take and then let him know and he will leave a script but I decided not to go on the pill so still had the packs at home.

So when I finish the active pills I can just start the next pack active pills and I miss my period is that right then I will stop them after the wedding and let my cycle take it's course.

I am on the pill for endo and heavy bleeding. I found that I have to be on the pill for a good couple of months before I can skip a month as I end up with terrible breakthrough bleeding

Could you use a tampon and pads on the day? Or stress a lot which will delay it?

Just skip the sugar pills and keep going with the active pills this month. Easy!

Thanks Luxe, will skip the sugar pills, was just hoping I might have been able to start on day 10 and result in not taking as many pills since I've never been on them before.

I could try a tampon and pads but it's more just the that horrible feeling

You can start at any day of your cycle, as long as 7 consecutive active pills are taken - then the contraceptive effects will kick in after that. You can also take active pills every day indefinitely (I didn't have a single period for 10 years)

Go in to talk to your GP.

There is another option to delay your period for up to 2 weeks that involves taking a medication (a type of contraceptive pill) for the 4-5 days before your period and then the number of days that you want to delay. You and your GP can work out if this would be appropriate for you. It is useful for women who are not on the pill already.

Go and talk with your GP - I never, ever managed to 'skip' a bleed in all the years I took the pill, I'd miss the sugar pills but would bleed anyway. (often for longer than my normal 'period')

Don't pin your hopes on it OP.
