Hi,

Hoping someone can help me. I am having issues with heart Palpitations at night and sometimes during the day.

I often wake from sleep and it feels like I been holding my breath and my heart beating fast. This can happen up to 10 time and in the end I give up on sleeping.

I am 32 weeks pregnant with twins and at first I thought it was the way I slept. But happens sitting up.

Anyone got ideas on how I can sleep?

I get them mainly in pregnancy also, and it's usually to do with my thyroid, have you had yours checked? It's been so long now, that I can't remember what tests my Ob did, but I ended up on medication for the rest of my 3rd pregnancy and again for a time in my 4th.

Nothing you can do about it without having it checked out by the doctor. I get them regularly, it feels like my heart skips a beat then puts in a little extra one. Lately I've had a few come in runs where my heart seems to race for about 10-15sec then go back to normal. If they're happening frequently the doctor will want you to wear a Holter Monitor for 24h so they can work out exactly what is happening in your heart. Many rhythm abnormalities are quite benign and don't need medication, but if its happening frequently enough to stop you from sleeping you should definitely see your doctor about it!

+1 ^^ Definitely see a doctor. Prior to seeing the dr. document when it happens, just to be clear about frequency. If you can take your own pulse, record that as well.

Cut down as much as possible - or better still - out altogether, ANY possible sources of caffeine or guarana that you may be ingesting.
So, that means coffee, chocolate & cola drinks & tea + other drinks such as "V" etc.,
You may notice a difference after 4 days. However, do not delay a doctor's appt to do this.

Some women have less tolerance for caffeine & guarana at various times of their cycle and sometimes when pregnant.

Hi Shhh,

I feel for you! I too have heart palpitations off and on and they are most annoying!

Can't give you much advice except drink LOTS of water. I find they are worse if I haven't been drinking enough over the past few days.

Let us know what the dr says - hope you can get some relief because they are dreadfully annoying!

I got it mostly in my first trimester, but they come from time to time now.

Totally agree with the PP. Get your thyroid checked. I have Hashimotos thyroiditis (was diagnosed over 2 years ago) and when I went hyperthyroid after starting my medication I had the worst breathless episodes at night when I wanted to sleep. Or I'd wake up and be breathless and need a fan blowing straight in my face to help me breathe.

Best to get it checked. It can be normal in pregnancy and given you're having twins they put extra pressure on your ribcage, but it's always better to rule out other things first.
