Hi, i asked for a travel quote to Fiji, we we re planning on going in Jan, but now we ll be going in July school holidays. The accomodation that was booked for us was the Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa, has anyone stayed there with a young family before, was it nice? Our childrens ages will be 8, 6 and 4. Is there anywhere else that is great for familys that you would recommend.

It looks like Jiji is a popular holiday destination for family's, id love to go there. Thanks

I have been there and absolutely loved it. There are 6 of us and we stay in a 2 bedroom Bure. It is only a 3 star resort (it is a bit rundown in some places) however the staff and location make up for it. It is a smaller resort and not a big resort that you feel like a number. When we go we purchase the all inclusive food and drink package as it is a great deal. The fijians are wonderful people and very friendly.

They take children in the Kids Club from 5 years of age, if under 5 years of age then an adult needs to be present. They don't have a room separate for the Kids Club as such, but they do activities. Our children were in the Kids Club of a night time so dh and I could have dinner together. Normally of a night time it is a DVD/movie, which works for us as I know my children sit for that and they are tired by the end of the day. They do have a nightly show at 8:30pm if your children are still awake which is family friendly. My children always see this.

The children eat free as well, so at the specific times, breakfast is from 7 til 10am, lunch 12 to 1pm and dinner 5 to 6pm. For us adults same time for breakfast, lunch 12 to 2pm and dinner is at 7pm, however if you want to keep your children with you for dinner you are more than welcome however they won't be on the eat free policy.

If you need to know anymore just PM as we have been there twice and are going back again this year.

Thanks Jen for your great reply - I have a couple of questions

Jen1 Was jsut wondering how the meals worked. Do the kids have to eat separately from you or only if you decide to go to one of the other resturuants?

What sort of food for the kids do they have? ( I have a very fussy niece and nephew and wouldnt want to get there and have them refuse to eat the food and have to buy expensive meals for them).

If we didnt get the food packages for the adults how much does a typical meal cost?

Hi Jen1; thanks for youre reply and for the useful information. It sounds like Hideaway is well suited to children, i lilke the idea of childrens meals includdi in the same price as ours, my children arnt too fussy ier eaters so hopefully we would be ok. Yes thats right a 2 bedroom bure is wha we were quoted in the package, which would be great.

I have been reading about Naviti and I wouldn't go there with the fire that has happened. It is so disappointing as it was such a great place.

You can eat separately from the kids, if you want too. At breakfast time we all ate together. At lunch time as the free kids lunch time was from 12 to 1pm, so we would go there around 12:45 and then the children could eat and then we would order lunch all together. We did take some word books for them to sit with us as we waited for our meal. You could sit outside near the pool and the kids could swim while you ate lunch however it was nice for them and us to sit for lunch and be out of the midday sun as the sun is really quite warm there. Dinner time was from 5pm to 6pm so we would go with them for dinner and they would eat and then at 6pm the were with the Kids Club people in the DVD room. If we wanted we could have had the children with us for dinner, for the night, however this wouldn't have been with the free stay and eat deals. There is 1 restaurant but I have noticed a snack place opened up near the pool area. I love the 1 restaurant idea as that is the main area where they do their nightly show and you do get to see the same people. If there are several restaurants then you won't see the same people again. I know this isn't important to some however over the years that we have been there, we have preferred the 1 restaurant place.

When we go to Hideaway it is peak time so it is more buffet food for the children, which our children seem happy with. There is chicken, fish, spag bolognaise, pizza, chips, pasta, rice, salad fruit and different types of dessert. It really does depend on the night with what is available. I don't have fussy children so they are more than happy to eat what they have on offer.

Sorry not sure about the prices for the typical meal, as we weren't looking at that when we were there as we had the all inclusive. We all had a fantastic variety of breakfast and then we would have lunch around 12:30 odd and the children would eat and we would order our 2 course lunch. At dinner time the children would eat at 5pm to 6pm (free for children up to 13 years old) and then they would go to Kids Club. At 6pm to 7pm they have trivia and Happy Hour. It is a very entertaining evening.

You could ask your travel agent for a new price for July. From November to March is Monsoon season so that would be a cheaper time. What you can do is ask your travel agent what price it is for July and I can give you the lady at Hideaways price for you to compare. I booked directly with the hotel and made my own bookings with flights online, so haven't gone through a travel agent, however on my first time to Fiji I used a travel agent as I felt more secure and didn't know much about it. We have been there several times I am more than happy to book everything myself and save $$$$'s.

The cocktails they make at Hideaway is fantastic and it is sad to drink them, however someone has to do it!!

I meant to mention that Hideaway is 1 1/2 hours drive away from Nadi airport, so you need to factor that in when traveling there. It is only 2 ways and the driving is a little bit to be desired. There are quite a few resorts down on the Coral Coast that takes the time to travel too, however it is very beautiful down there and worth the trip.
