Hi, have just realised I have put on 4kg in 3 weeks. I am 26w 5d.

Starting weight 84kg (overweight at 173cm!), then lost 5kg with HG, was 82kg on 13 January, now 86.

I haven't been eating the best, in part because I am still nauseous sometimes and just eat whatever I feel like, and had a bit of a chocolate binge a couple of weeks ago. Starting tracking my food today again on MFP just to keep myself somewhat accountable ..

Just wondering though, is this excessive weight gain for this time in almost-3rd trimester? Midwife wasn't worried as long as it doesn't continue at this rate.

Just feeling a bit blah about it all. How could I not eat or drink anything for months and still be fat (I am still padded above the belly) sad.gif

You would have lost a lot of water weight while you were so ill now your body is just getting its fluid levels back where it needs to be.
Don't worry about it, as long as you are eating sensibly 80% of the time and drinking enough water you will be fine original.gif

Oh no! My only, probably rather unhelpful suggestion, is could it be water retention ? I puffed up a fair bit late in third trimester with my first baby, my OB wasn't too worried about it....

Also, with your HG .....was baby measuring small initially and has maybe gone on growth spurt?

Going by this calculator you should have gained a little bit more. http://www.kidspot.com.au/weightgain/pregn...gain-result.asp

I always thought that 10-15kg gain during pregnancy was normal, you are almost at the third trimester and have gained 2kg in total from your starting weight so tbh if it was me i wouldn't be too worried at all.

What would worry me though is the unhealthy eating. Make sure you get lots of fresh veg and fruits each day, meat especially iron rich, and carbs, just strive for a more balanced eating plan. If you're anything like me if you don't eat you start feeling really sick then won't be able to keep anything down for the rest of the day (i don't think my body like hypermesis) so I make sure I have healthy snack at hand, or my go to snacks especially if i'm starting to feel sick is Soy n linseed bread toasted topped with Vegemite.

Don't focus on your weight gain, your midwife wasn't concerned, just focus on fuelling your body with lots of healthy stuff to help baby grow. I was like you and lost weight, I'm still down 4kg from my starting weight, but in the past few weeks i have been able to back the zofran off a little and not be sick multiple times a day and the constant i'm thirsty feeling has gone so i think most of the weight i have gained is from water.

well i gained 17kg... and still 5weeks to go.
but that's prolly because i was a little underweight pre pregnancy.
i think as long as your OB / Midwife are OK with your weight gain, then dont worry about it.
I only weight myself when i go to the gym, so far my midwife hasnt done it!

Hi OP, I dont think that your weight gain is excessive at all. I started out same weight and ended up 115!!! (I don't advise it lol) Still trying to get back to pre baby weight 8 months later wahh!

Hey RB, that is a perfectly fine weight gain.
Discount the amount you lost due to HG because your body needed to make up that as you were most probably dehydrated on top of losing some body weight.

You have really only put on 4 kgs at 27 weeks original.gif

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
I don't belong here, but I remember my first pregnancy. The morning sickness was so bad that I was 20 weeks before I got back to my pre-pregnancy (over) weight.

I think you're doing fine and I hope you're more successful than I was in reining in the "making up for lost time" eating that I did after 20 weeks.

OP I gained 5kg between my 19 week and 23 week appointments. I have gained 11 in total just turned 24 weeks. I think there are different growth spurt times! My OB wasnt too worried, but DID check if i was wearing similar clothing to previous appointment ohmy.gif
I feel really hungry and not for fruit and vege unfortunatley sad.gif

Trust me... I'm a scientician
As pp's have said, as long as your diet is good, I wouldn't worry. I've found with this pregnancy I'll put on 2 kg in a week, and then nothing for 6 weeks, then put on 3 kg in a week and then nothing for a while. I know it's alarming to put on a few in one hit, but overall I'd say a total weight gain of 4 kg is pretty good!
