For many reasons our breastfeeding journey came to an end today and I'm not sure what bottles to use.
little one also has a poor suck, on the test the LC did she took eight sucks to get milk through the tube when she should have taken no more then three. We are also dealing with an oral aversion so makes feed time quite stressful.

I don't think it makes much difference for reflux. Apparently the cheap bottles are just as good as any other but I'm not sure they last as long. I bought a pidgeon peristaltic bottle, a closer to nature bottle, and a cheapo one to test on DS (who also had reflux) and I found he took to the closer to nature one quite well, although he had tongue tie and poor suck issues as well. The closer to nature ones are meant to reduce air getting through so I guess that's a good thing.

The main thing with bottle feeding and reflux is positioning, stopping to give them breaks,and looking into the possibility of thickeners.

I hope you are feeling ok about ending breastfeeding. Reflux is HARD. Hang in there, it gets better.

I found that narrow teat bottles were better than wide necked for my reflux baby (he could get a better seal on these). When the reflux was very severe, Dr Brown's bottles were really good - they are hard to find and really fiddly to clean though. When he was a bit bigger and the reflux settled down a bit, Pigeon bottles have been fine (and much easier to clean!).

We used Pigeon Peristaltic slow flow for the first weeks and then switched to the Y teat. It was what was recommended by the nurses and they what they use in the special care nursery. Also the pigeon brand formula container thingy is handy. It is one of the easiest to empty into the bottle one handed and you can use it for snacks and purees later on.

The speechies came and saw DD ( 12 weeks) when she was in hospital a few weeks ago. She is among other things a bad reflux bub. We had coles cheapies and closer to nature bottles and she asked us to throw out the coles cheapy. Be very careful about flow with the bottles. You want a nice slow flow ( to extend the feed) but be wary of to small a flow as by the time you add thickener you can end up with a teat thats not actually letting anything out.

Pigeon here too and burp breaks sorry your going through reflux, it can be hell on earth.

Yes I had to stop breastfeeding because... I had to! And it still hurt. I went through a grief process but it was delayed because I needed things to get sorted with DS first, but then it hit me like a tonne of bricks later. But I will tell you this, it is a relief when you see them feeding. Just feeding. That's all I really, really wanted by that stage. DS had some similar issues, I found a dummy really helped him although he needed some persuasion at first to take one. I do think it helped his suck, it certainly helped him get some lovely saliva going after feeds to help with the acid in his throat. Look, he was losing weight and a miserable baby, then by 4 months old he was drinking 8x 200ml bottles of thickened formula a day! So as hard as things are now, just remember that the thing with babies in that first year is that there is constant change. Things will get better.

we used avent as we had to use karicare thickner and avent were the only bottles that would allow thickner through

Pigeon wide necks all the way for us and thickner worked really well, and of course losec.

Good luck - it can be challenging but then you do end up taking it in your stride.

I second the pigeon formula dispenser and the heinz one was really good too.
