So the shops around town where I work are filling up with mawkish oversized stuffed bears carrying hearts made of cheap red satin.
The florists have dollar sign in their eyes (no offence to any EB florists reading).

What do you think? A big commercialised con, or a chance to be reminded to spoil the one you love, even if it's tongue in cheek?

And whilst you're sharing your world view in regard to Valentine's Day, help me out here folks... what do I do re my new romantic interest? Should I raise the subject? There is no way we could meet on the day anyhow, but we are going out the day after. I'm really not fussed about it and certainly cannot think of anything worse than a big fluffy teddy bear (in fact he would decrease in my estimation if he chose such a gift for me). But I don't want to look not interested, if he does send a card or more. He's already sent flowers after our first real date. I can't decide if that means it's MORE likely he will do something for 14/02, or LESS?

Advise me, oh wise ones. Say nothing? Be proactive and get him a small gift? or discuss in advance?

get a bottle of wine to share with him.

I don't do valentines day. Its corny, a waste of money, hallmark occasion. DH and I agree to spend time with one another but not to waste money on it. We might cook a nice dinner, hire a movie to watch together, thats about it. No money for the florists or hallmark!

Well I was in the Family Planning office the other week and I saw a large poster informing me that February 14th is "World Condom Day"...

I have also heard it described as "BJ and a Steak Dinner Day"...

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES give a man a stuffed toy - EVER.

Ever!

That's all I have to add..

My war paint is Sharpie ink
It tends to be a night in with pizza and a movie around here. DH sometimes suprises me with flowers and I usually get him something sweet. I like Valentines Day. It's meaningful to me, even if Hallmark have co-opted it.

In your case I would get a small gift and a plain card without a predetermined message that could trap you into saying something you don't really mean.

That's awesome. By coincidence we've had that track on repeat in our house lately. Which was cute until DD started finding it hilarious to sing it while sticking like glue to ones leg and refusing to let go. Do you take customised orders? wink.gif

Just thought of something else...

I once got a poem for Valentines Day when I was separated by a mighty ocean (well - 1/2 a strait) from my first love..

I'd be home bonking you...

I thought it was terribly romantic.... still do 20 odd years later - bless him!

Awww wub.gif

It's so tricky because it's a very new romance and so I'm keen to avoid putting my foot in it.
