My old man foxie (going on 18) seems to be losing the plot! Twice in the last two days he has got stuck in places and can't work out how to get himself out even though he is not actually trapped IYKWIM? Anyone had a dog that started losing their faculties?

My parents last dog did that. She stand at the door waiting to go out to the toilet walk out and come back in. She would do that about 3 times before figuring out that she did need to go toilet.

When I was a kid our family scottie dog got like that. He'd climb up onto a table outside and then not remember how to get back down. We'd come home from school and find him up there most days. He'd be perched on the edge as though he wanted to get down, so goodness knows how long he'd be there. The vet gave him an injection of some kind, I think steroids, and he came good. He eventually had a series of strokes, so not sure if it was related.

My sister's male Lab. He was about 16yo. Poor guy. She PTS when be became incontinent and distressed. I loved that dog, really miss him.

Yes, our old St Bernard developed something like dementia at the end. She'd do nonsensical things that she'd never done before and just seemed a but vague (not her normal demeanour at all). She was 12 years old when she was PTS, a very ancient old Saint. God, I miss her so much, she was a superb, magnificent friend.

Yeah our family Maltese did that.
Getting lost in corners. Window coverings were horrible. Trapped behind blinds and curtains.she would sit there and cry in distress.
We ended up needing to lift them all up.

Those things could be handled.

However it was the constant barking at absolutely nothing for hours on end that was the hardest.

We ended up pts at the age of 15.

She was simply miserable the poor old dear. .

So far these are the only things bothering me, barking is not an issue, he hasn't barked in about 4 years! Lol! He is completely deaf, quite a bit of his vision is going and his bladder is getting a little dodgy but happy enough. Can't complain at his age! I hope these episodes of getting "stuck" don't get worse, would hate to think of him being stressed or stuck somewhere if I was not at home.
