Hi Ladies,

I have had some brown spotting over the last few weeks, sometimes it can be a dull red colour, most of the time its brown. I did have this in my first pregnancy and it was 'unexplained', but keep wondering whether I should be heading to the hospital? Bubby is pretty active now, and can feel movement throughout the day and havent noted any changes. Also, my placanta is anterior and high, not low lying.
My OB appointment is in 2 days and i have taken photos (TMI!) of the spotting to show him, but do you think i should be racing into ER? Just after some opinions? Thanks so much

I was advised by my obs that any spotting/bleeding should be checked out straight away. My pregnancies were high risk, but I would assume it would be the same for any pregnancy.

Ring your OB/midwives. The ED would send you up to birth suite for an assessment.

I would get it checked, if it was me. Just to be on the safe side.

You should definitely ring your OB and let him know about the spotting.

Thanks so much ladies, i called the OB and he is calling me back (he is in theatre) to tell me to either come to his rooms or the hosp. The reaction was that we dont muck around with bleeding at 23-24 weeks, so i am glad i called.

Thanks Brightfuture, I updated my DIG but didnt update this thread, so here goes;

I went in the other day and i was still bleeding so OB had a good look at the colour etc, did an ultrasound and took a swab, tested to see if amniotic fluid leaking, and also did an internal exam of cervix. He said i had two choices, either be admitted to hospital for a few days so they can monitor me, or go home and monitor myself. I chose to go home, because he said they wont do anything to save bubby (IF this was a sign of preterm labour) until i was 24 weeks (3 days away). So i go back on Monday and he will check me out again (i will be over 24 weeks) and he gave me the worst case scenario of going to Sydney (1.5 hours away) (hospitals where i live arent equiped for so early deliveries) and they will give me injection to prepare bubbys lungs for birth.
TOTALLY overwhelming, but so pleased with my OB on how he delivered this info to me and how thorough he was in checking me. MOST LIKELY it is just one of those unexplained bleeds, so im keeping positive and my gut feeling is telling me its all OK.

The good news is, at my 20 week scan bubs was measuring a week behind, well he has caught up with flying colours and back on track spot on to the date! (which im taking as a great sign!)

Now its been 2 days since the bleed and it seems to have settled down to light spots, I am in a much better headspace and i am hoping my OB gave me the worst case scenario to prepare me, but most likely to go on as normal. I have another apointment on monday (3 days time) so he can have another look and go from there.

Thanks again x original.gif
