My DS2, who is almost 4 months old, won't stop screeching. It's such a loud high pitched shriek and he does it most of the time at the moment. He is happy and I'm sure he's not in any pain. When he makes the sound, I look at him and he gives me the biggest smile. Is it his way of getting my attention? Is this normal and just a phase?
Anyone else experience this? If so, how long did it last? I can't remember DS1 doing this. I'm worried that the neighbours might think I'm mistreating him!! |

My LO does that, and she's happy! He's probably just discovering his voice and all the wonderful things he can do with it. DD makes all sorts of noises from high pitched squeal to guttural growls. It's when she's quiet these days I start to wonder!

My third is a screecher. He is 13 months now and only just started in the last 2 months or so. It's drives me insane. I hate it, especially when we are out.
My first 2 never did this at all. |

Yes! My DS did this, would screech and scream really high pitched.
There was nothing wrong with him, it was just him vocalising and experimenting with his voice. However it was horrible, I actually had ringing in my ears a few times he was so loud! I can't remember exactly when he stopped but it was well over 6 months. He even let's out the occasional high pitched scream now at 20 months. I tried all sorts of things to stop him and nothing worked, just had to ride it out. |

I agree with PP that he is exploring his voice and a new found sound. I hope he outgrows it soon for you! My DD went through a stage where she would grunt all the time, it only lasted about 2 weeks once she got bored of the sound I guess.

My 5.5 mo had been doing this for a few weeks. She's so loud! Totally normal.

Attention seeking and happiness hence the smiling. The novelty wears off for them, then returns when they are about 2 and a half.....sigh....

Thanks for your replies. DS is asleep at the moment so my ears are getting a much needed rest. I hope he stops screeching soon because it's driving me insane. DH and I can't hold a conversation with him in the room. DS1 even tells him to be quiet and has to play in his room to get away from the awful noise.
I guess I'll look back at this and laugh but at the moment I'm contemplating wearing earplugs. |
