There's something wrong with my dog :(

Hi All, I have a 5.5 year old Red Cattle dog - he's usually very alert and quite active (ie will run to you when you walk outside) however, in the last week he has been asleep alot and he usually does spend alot of time on his back in the sun, but I've noticed today that he struggles to get up and seems to be really sad. It breaks my heart. I can't get him to the vet until tomorrow, but I dont know what I can do in the meantime. Is it possible that he could have some sort of arthritis or an illness? Sorry, i don't really know what else to do.

I'm sorry I have no advice I know how hard it is when your doggy is sick, mine has kennel cough at the moment so nothing too serious and is on antibiotics but everyone he coughs it breaks my heart. Can you allow him to sleep in your room or close to you so you can keep an eye in him tonight?

Train your dog, it's worth it!
Possibly, arthritis is common in dogs - and cattle dogs definitely get it. Let us know how you get on at the vet's. Fingers crossed it can be managed easily (my dog gets cartrophen shots and takes meloxicam for her arthritis, plus is on J/D, she's 12yo and still hoons around when her medication kicks in).

Thanks everyone. I can't get him to the vet until this afternoon, but I will definately come back and let you know. He ate his dinner last night which is a good thing, but he was still struggling to walk around. Spikey - I'm relieved to hear that your dog improves with medication. I just feel so guilty that we don't exercise him enough and that's possibly why this his happening. Fingers crossed.

Cattle dog - I am thinking maybe and ACL injury. Would make him sore and stiff and not all dogs go lame in the affected leg once it has ruptured.

Report bad grammar and spelling ring 1800 bite me
My old boy who is 15 takes Glucosamine and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane). Works really well for him.

Thankfully all good news from the Vet! Doggie does have sore back legs and was prescribed some anti inflammatories/pain killers. Need to put him on a diet and give him some more exercise. Very happy it's not anything more serious. Thanks for all of your kind words and assistance.
