My son turns 5 in June 2013 and was due to start Reception (PREP) in Term 3, because in SA you start in the term after you turn 5. He would have done 6 terms of RECEPTION/PREP and gone to year 1 in 2014 which I was happy with.
Problem is...we are now moving to QLD in April this year. As far as I can gather, in QLD he would have been expected to have started PREP in Term 1 this year because he is 5 before July, but obviously he hasn't. I want him to do a full year of PREP, so can he start PREP in Term 1 2014, even though he will turn 6 at the end of June? ( some kids will turn 6 a matter of days after him) Anyone advise would be welcome |

He would have done 6 terms of RECEPTION/PREP and gone to year 1 in 2014 which I was happy with. He would still have been in Reception in 2014, not Year 1. 6 terms of Reception is Term 3 and 4 2013 and all 4 terms in 2014. He goes into Year 1 in 2015. My niece moved from SA to QLD three years ago with a DS who turned 5 in June as well. They would not enrol him in Prep as he had not been at school that year. He had to wait until the next year. So your DS would be the same - and it would be the same as if he started in SA. |

If he starts in April - he could start Prep in April and then start Grade 1 next year - they have to turn 5 by 30 June.
My boys started prep at 4 years 1 month and 4 years 4 months and started Grade 1 at 5 years 1 month and 5 years 4 months when the old system was that they had to turn 5 by 31st December So your son could do 8 months of prep and start Grade 1 next year This post has been edited by kerilyntaryn: 04/02/2013, 09:10 PM |

Sorry I suppose I was just afraid they would say he has to go straight to year 1 in 2014 because of the cut of dates in QLD. |

He's the kind of child that takes a while to adjust to new surroundings so starting 3 months behind everyone else into a classroom of new faces might be a recipe for an 'unhappy boy' |
