I'm just looking for some advice from fellow EBers on how you and your partners managed to compromise/agree when coming up with a name? My DH and I haven't come up with boy names for our 1st baby due in May, and its making me feel like if it is a boy the poor little thing won't have a name!

I like:
Leo (my favourite)
Flynn
Patrick
Rhett (my all time favourite but doesn't work at all with our surname)

DH has hardly contributed any ideas but is very quick to poo-poo my suggestions...

Any advice on how to go about finding something we both love??

Both write a list of 15 names each, swap lists, cross off what you hate from the list and go from there....

Mind you, i've posted plenty of times in here desperate for advice for a baby name, so maybe i'm not the best one to give advice

Read through the credits at the end of a movie get him to say which ones he likes

What BIL & SIL had to do was come up with a list of 20 names each, they then sat down with the other person's list & had to circle 5 names they could live with.

Doing that, it turned out they liked 1 name the same & 1 name they could both live with - so that is how number 2 was named - 4 weeks after being born.

Can you maybe ask him to go away and make a list of names, say 20 or so, and then you can cross reference with your own list and see if there are any similarities? I gave DH a baby name book and he went away and did the first name on both of our lists was the same!

My DH was like yours until about 3 weeks before DS was born and then we got right down to business - list of 10 each - lots of overlaps - ended up going with two names we loved in his order. I wanted X Y, he wanted Y X about a week before he was born. I'm so glad we did it his way now.

With DD it was the same except we got to 3 variants of the one name and after she had been born she remained unnamed for 8 hours. He went home to get something and when he got back I said her name is z. He went cool and we were done.

I think even though May seems close for you, it seems forever to others. I also think men are more superstitious than they say.

I'm the same, if this baby comes out a boy it'll have no name. As it is for girls names he didn't like many of my suggestions, we have a girls list now of 3 names, we both have a favourite from the 3, but it's not the same name lol.

For the girls I ended up going through a massive list and wrote down the ones he liked, then removed the ones I didn't like. I think I read out about 150 names or so and we had a list of 6 and ended up with 3 from there, and will probably not agree on the final name till registration time is up

THIS!!! My Dads name was Leo, such a strong name and not too common

My DH was the same with my first child and shot down all my suggestions but had barely any of his own. So I told him if he had nothing to suggest then I get naming rights. He still didn't really contribute and in the end we went with the name I loved the most and DH's middle name. He was happy with that. The naming thing just wasn't that important to him.
With my second child my expectations were alot less on DH and I basically chose the name and he said "ok" and that was that.
Personally I would go with Flynn but I am totally biased as it is the name of one of my children!
