Hi All, We both are Indian. Our first daughter is named Richa (it is Sanskrit name, meaning is Hymn). Few days back, we are blessed with another baby girl and now we are searching suitable name for her and need your suggestions.
We are considering name Riya (it is also Sanskrit name, meaning is Singer), does it go well with name Richa? or should be avoided being bit similar names? Suggestions are welcome.. This post has been edited by shb05: 04/02/2013, 11:47 AM |

Hi OP. Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!
I have only a small understanding of Indian culture, although I do have a good friend who is Indian. I believe that when the baby is born, you get told which are the 'best' letters for the baby's name to begin with? Do you know which letters are most auspicious for your baby? Maybe that would help others to provide suggestions. There are many lovely Indian names. Riya is a nice name, I do think it's quite close to Richa but if you really love it you should still use it. |

Thanks Kiki M for reply.. We are not going to select name based on any specific starting or best letters, in fact we don't know yet what that starting / best letters is for our little princess.. So we are open to all names but restricting to easy to pronounce and spell, global sounding names.
We are also considering name 'Myra', it is not Indian origin name but we thought its sweet name. Does it sound very old name? Thanks |

Hi OP.
I have spent alot of time in India and love Indian names. I think both of your names are very beautiful but maybe a bit too similar. My favorite Sanskrit girls name is Shanti. But there are sooo many beautiful names out there! Have you tried one of the online name sites? You can usually select Sanskrit only. Good luck and congratulations on your princess. |

Riya is lovely but for me too close to Richa.
Myra is an absolutely gogeous name and goes beautifully with Richa. Heartiest congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter! |

Hi There,
I think Richa and Riya are much too similar sounds unfortunately. Myra is not very common so it doesn't sound very old-fashioned. Some Indian names with a 'global' sound in my opinion are Milana (could be nick name of Mila) Maya I also love the name Manya, but it doesnt have the same global sound perhaps. |
