We have a LG 8kg Direct Drive Front Loader - I love it and its an affair I have had for 6 years and as strong a ever. It washing my clothes so well my delicates are treated lovely, the toughest of the stains my 11yr son can through at it always come out and its so quiet because of the direct drive that its a pleasure. My mum recently got the latest model and she loves hers just as much. Will never go back to any other style of washer.

Asko Asko Asko, all the way!!! (front loader)

Do a search for Asko washing machines on EB and you'll find HEAPS of people who swear by them.

If you are buying a front loader, just make sure you get a decent one (min $1000 if you are planning to use it HEAPS)

In terms of any front loader you are getting, it's helpful to get one with
- various spin settings (ours goes 800, 1000, 1200, 1400 & 1600)
- various water temp settings (ours goes tap water, 30, 40 50 60 & 70)
- rinse only cycle
- spin only cycle
- delay start option
- handwash option
- open during cycle option (this option is available with more expensive FL models)

The Asko I have has a regular wash cycle of 60 minutes, but a light-soiled cycle of 46 minutes. It has super quick cycle of 33 minutes (half load only). Heavy soiled load takes an 1hr25mins. If you start heating the water, cycles take longer but I find I rarely need to wash with warm/hot water. tap water cycles are fine for us. We have the option of modifying the standard cycles if we want - adding in an extra wash or an extra rinse, changing the spin speeds, not having a spin finish, using the anti-crease option, etc. We have created out own "favourite" cycles and that's brilliant for DH when he is doing the wash (no need to think about what to do).

I haven't handwashed anything since we got the Asko - it does a brilliant job.

Our asko is 10 years old, never missed a beat, never need a repair so far and never been serviced. Does 7-10 loads/week regularly, more sometimes. And it's remarkably quiet when compared to other front loaders. I love it!

I have the Panasonic 10kg front loader. It has delayed start, can open once cycle has started, has about 14 different wash cycles from delicates to bed linen to towels to heavy duty and a quick wash cycle (which we use most). It was around $900 12 months ago

What else can I say? the clothes come out clean, it isn't too noisy and I've had no problems with it

I agree the front loader is brilliant on clothes, and stains HOWEVER it leaves my once lovely fluffy towels crunchy. Also my MCNs are no longer as soft, nor flannel PJs. I've tried every suggestion going but so far it's been unsuccessful.

Our model is the Fisher & Paykel 8kg. I can't fault it otherwise. We've had it a three years. It has a quick cycle of 30 mins, hand wash, wool, cotton, allergy, shirts, heavy duty settings and you can set your water and spin, as well as do a pre-wash or extra rinse at the push of a button.

The only other thing I don't like is being unable to soak clothes in the actual washing machine, but that's not a big deal. I'm heartbroken over my crunchy towels though sad.gif
