QUOTE (CrazySingleMum @ 04/02/2013, 11:06 AM) Post arrived this morning, as always, it's more mail for the previous tenant than for me.
Generally I've been dropping it back in the mailbox with "Return to Sender - Left Address" as the RE said the last tenant did a runner and they don't have forwarding details.
But today, he's got a telegram!!! I'm obviously not going to open it, but should I just put this back in the post box or do something else?
Didn't even think they did telegrams anymore!!! The envelope doesn't have a contact phone number, just a return PO address in Melbourne. Just return to sender... the 'telegram" is another company wanting their money from the previous tenant. its like a "final demand" letter..

QUOTE (Z-girls rock @ 04/02/2013, 11:15 AM) a telogram. wow. sounds a bit fun.
I think I would have a bit of fun too.
maybe instead of writing "return to sender - not known at this address'
write something like 'return to postmaster - thy chappy has departed from these residences henceforth"
or something silly like that. LOL I think I will do this. QUOTE (Jacki:) @ 04/02/2013, 11:24 AM) Just return to sender... the 'telegram" is another company wanting their money from the previous tenant. its like a "final demand" letter.. Ah, that makes sense, it's just mail dressed up to look like a telegram. Oh yes, this guy must owe money to everybody, with the amount of official looking mail he gets. He gets a lot from Centrelink and Child Support as well (I only know this because the return address is the same as my correspondence). I've never opened any of his mail. But I wish they'd realise he's NOT HERE ANYMORE. I write RETURN TO SENDER ADDRESSEE NOT AT THIS ADDRESS ANY MORE in big letters (and when you've got 15, that takes a while!) ... and still they come.

Yeah, it'd be a scary final notice thing. We once lived in a rental property where the tenant had buggered off owing loads of money to people and it caused ENDLESS problems with the electricity/gas company, who kept getting confused about whether I was the guy they were chasing, or not. Obviously we took out a new contract when we moved into that house, in our name, but because the address was still on file as being seriously unpaid they kept confusing us with him.
We also once got (after MONTHS of doing return-to-sender on everything addressed to him) a really scary debt collection letter. I decided to open that one, and it stated that debt-collectors would be coming by the house next week to speak to this guy - EEK! I'm so glad I opened it. I was able to call them and say he didn't live there anymore. The letters kept coming (???) but they didn't turn up on the doorstop. I lived in constant fear that they would, though, until we moved. :/

OT but a previous post reminded me. I once got a calling card from a debt collector left on my front door. It was for someone else so I rang the debt collector to let them know he had the wrong address (I built the house so no previous tenants). The guy gave me the third degree about who I was. I ended up having to hang up on him because he just wouldn't quit questioning me.
