Hi all,

My DH ended up in hospital yesterday after hurting his leg. He was still in ED when I left, but was in the process of being admitted to the ward, as he has to go to theatre this morning.

Does anyone know whether or not I will have to wait until the hospital's visiting hours (which are 12pm - 8pm) to go and see him???

I am planning on going up this morning after dropping DS at school...

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but the anxiety / stress / lack of sleep is not helping me think straight...

I thought most hospitals usually relaxed the 'rules' a bit for mediate family.

I would go. If it is a really long way then if ring the nurses on the ward to check.

As PP said. Most hospitals will relax the rules because you are immediate family. Especially due to the fact he was in the ED and is having surgery. Just ring them first and ask when the surgery is.

I'd think that's just to keep the annoying people out. When I was in hospital there was a guard who refused to let people into wards outside visiting times unless it was ok'd by nurse who'd checked with patient. But generally, they'd like you to keep quiet during outside visiting hours as drs do their rounds and patients need rest. Hope your DH is on the mend!

My Dad spent 5 months in hospital the year before last. They never once turned me away out of visiting hours.

As PP said they are mainly to keep 'annoying' people out. A spouse sitting and talking quietly with her partner isn't going to create the same level of disruption that a family of 6 all standing and wailing and running around will.... so I am sure you'll be fine.

I was recently in hospital and I had visitors all through the day regardless of what the sign said

Hi all,

Thanks for that. Might ring the hospital in a little while ( am in QLD so still only 6.40am here) to check how he is and when the surgery should be.
It will just be me going, DS wanted to see him (to make sure he is ok) but I said that he will see him this afternoon.

Hopefully they will be ok with me being there, have rung work to let them know I won't be in today, wouldn't be able to concentrate, so no point going to work...

as the others have said, immediate family can gernerlly come and go as they please....

When my DH was in hospital I was allowed to see him whenever I wanted. DH was also allowed in with me irregardless of visiting hours after the birth of our children, he was just told by the nurses that if he's out in the halls to be quiet, that's it.

Nope, you don't. You're his wife, not a visitor!

We use them to get rid of annoying people, or when someone has had so many visitors and need a rest. We can actually leaglly enforce them....but i didn't tell anyone that!
