Hello

As the title suggests, interested in chatting to anyone currently studying midwifery at Curtin.

How are you finding it? Is it what you expected? Are you enjoying it? And if you have children, how are you juggling the two?

TIA!

I know that Mid at Curtin is very competitive, something like 20-30 places per intake. My advice is to talk with the course coordinator and have back up plans in place original.gif A portion of those places go to internal applicants, ie those who are doing nursing etc at Curtin and course switch. So maybe 10-15 places through TISC.

Apart from that Mid is full on, with study, placements, COC's etc, you need good support from family/friends etc.

Hi,
Hope someone here can give me some advice.
I'm thinking of doing my Postgrad Mid next year through Curtin. I'm pretty clueless about the process. Do you need to get a position as a student midwife or just do clinical placements each semester? How many shifts a week do you have to do?
How intense is the course? I havent studied in 10 years and am nervous to go back to uni sad.gif Especially with 2 young children. Is it possible to do the course part time?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Ainsley

I thought I may be able to answer some questions. I'm doing undergrad mid at ECU but have worked with post grads from both curtin and ECU.
What I know of is that post-grads do blocks of study at uni and then assigned to a hospital employed as a student midwife where they do prac and get paid. I think they also do ongoing study whilst on prac like one day a week at uni or online units. Not sure how many shifts but I dont think it is full time maybe 4 shifts?? just guessing here. The course is 1.5yrs and definitely can do it part-time. I have worked with many but don't know the ins and out just thought id give you an idea.

Go onto curtins website and will have details there. Goodluck

I'm not doing that specific course but some of the first year units are the same. Love their online studying - it's too far for me to actually attend campus. Everything is compatible with iproducts. Unlike at ECU where I previously did a degree and nothing works on mobile devices.

I have also heard it's very competitive. I've had friends try to go into it after deciding they didn't want to do nursing and they've been knocked back.
