We are having a little party for DD's 4th birthday but due to a family wedding we cant hold her party until a couple of weeks after her actual birthday which doesnt matter at all, but as her birthday falls midweek on a day that I dont work, I have decided to take her somewhere special as we love having Mummy & Daughter time together.
I was thinking about Taronga Zoo via car, train and ferry (we live 1.5 hrs south west of Sydney in the Southern Highlands).
Apart from this, does anyone have any other recommendations as to exciting places I could take her for the day in Sydney?
Has your pre-school aged DD/DS been somewhere special in the city and absolutely loved it?
Her siblings are all bigger (ie 10, 11 and 13) so they will all be at school that day and DH is working so its just her and I.

Aquarium, Fairfield City Farm, Wildlife world, Olympic Park?
Also some kids love the airport and watching planes.

Does she like The Wiggles? You could go to the Wiggles exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum and then to the water playground at Darling Harbour.

Or the Aquarium/Sydney Wildlife World.

The train and ferry trip are pretty exciting. I took DS to Manly for a day trip so we could use the ferry. Have always driven in the past but knew he would love the ferry ride.

I think the Zoo would be perfect. Tiring but perfect.

When we go to Manly, we usually go to the aquarium there as its more low key and less glam than the Darling Harbour one and that is also its appeal.

Darling Harbour can be fun. There is an awesome playground for kids there and part of it, is a water playground as well...you would definitely need a change of clothes (or swimmers) if you go there.

I don't know Sydney well, but what about somewhere you can go for high tea or a fancy afternoon tea if she's the type to sit reasonably quietly and behave pretty well?
Tiny sandwiches, cups of tea, little cakes...yum!

If you go to Darling Harbour, then you can do both. They are a short walk from each other....maybe 10mins with a 4 year old. Its a pleasant walk around the harbour too. The only downside is the parking, hideously expensive during the week....around $20 an hour. Actually check with the Aquarium and see if the offer cheaper parking somewhere.

On a weekend its only $10 a day but then you are there with every other person in the world.

What about to the ballet at the opera house, or some other concert during the day? They have baby proms and other great things on.

Ooh Oohhh... what about the two of you getting dressed up and going to high tea in the QVB? What little princess wouldn't love that!!!

When I was a child, mum used to take me to the QVB for a special girls only lunch. We would ride the monorail and I would get to pick a treat from the lolly shop in the QVB. It is one of my fondest memories of my childhood.
