I have just heard about a new reality show, where the contestants will undergo 8 years of training and then be sent to liveon Mars. It is a one way trip.

So what do you think?

Who would sign up for it, and would you?

How cool is that? I hope it's for real. I really, REALLY, hope it's genuine. It's past time we started to move off planet.

I'm too old to go, my kids are too young. But it would be an awesome thing to do with your life. I would have signed up for that in my early twenties though. Absolutely.

Not me, but I can think of a few people I would nominate for a one-way trip to Mars.

Is it April 1?

I don't believe the first people to colonise a new planet would be reality tv stars, but suspension of disbelief aside, no I wouldn't sign up for it.

I imagine the only people who would are fugitives on the lam.

It seems to be 'legit', that is, the company exists and has plans to settle a small colony on Mars. They're hoping to create the biggest reality show the world has ever seen. They apparently had a massively disastrous PR exercise on reddit, where they were roundly criticised for having very little science to back up their plans.

The founders have no scientific background but are hoping to raise 6 billion dollars to hire experts to work out all the details.

It doesn't take that long to get to Mars (not decades) so I'm not sure why people couldn't come home again? Interesting though!

Lol, would you wish them on the other poor inhabitants though?

It's not a reality tv show as such though. More a case of they'll find the right people to send and part of the funding will come from tv rights.

It excites me so much I can't imagine anyone not giving at least a fleeting thought to being part of it. Perhaps I'm just a space junkie weirdo though. shrug.gif

Oh if I was a single, childless person I would have signed up in a heartbeat.

Do they have time machines yet so I can go back in time and not get married and have a child, then present myself as a young nubile 20 (something). Please tell me they do!

Otherwise guaranteed reincarnation and they are still doing this kind of thing in about 70ish years!
