So my partner and I have Tuesday as the set day for both our procedures. My follicles look really good according to my nurse and she is happy the way I've responded to my first cycle original.gif here's hoping this all works out. Anyone have any advice procedure wise? I know everyone reacts differently but how long does it normally take? How long will I be under for etc? Just want to get an idea. Keep your fingers crossed that we find a few good little swimmers in my partners biopsy and some nice ripe eggs in my follicles! original.gif

Good luck!
I was out for 20mins for my EPU and DH was out for about the same for his TESE. I felt fine after about an hour head-wise but my belly was sore for days (though I hyperstimulated). DH was groggy for around two hours but then completely fine. He was a bit tender for a few days afterwards.
It will be done and dusted before you know it!
Let us know how you get on original.gif

My partner wasn't under GA for his. They did top up the local at one point though.
I had GA for all epu's bar the last one. I found it much better without the GA - so interesting to watch the egg collection.

Good luck original.gif

hi OP, we did 4 cycles, each involving surgical sperm extraction, which i guess is the same as your DH's procedure.

I'm not sure how long i was under, DP's procedure always took longer though. he was also much more worse for wear after it than me. he was signed off work for a week and on pain killers for a few days & appeared to be quite obviously in pain. in comparison, i was totally fine after the first 3 epu's, like nothing had happened. after the fourth i had some significant discomfort. good luck! my amh was also really low for my age at 2.3 which we only discovered prior to our last cycle. just remember that its quality rather than quantity at epu :-)

Hi K10 thanks so much for that information. Fingers crossed I feel like nothing has happened!! That'd be lovely!! My partner is having his whole teste removed because its quite small as they said it would be a cancer risk if he left it after having tissue removed so at least they can really pull it apart and hopefully find at least a few swimmers!! That's all we want! We do have a donor as a back up but hoping we don't need to use it.

Hi Op, when we went through this procedure they didn't find any swimmers in DH. He was under for about 30min.

I had agreed with my Dr that we would be waiting for the biopsy results before proceeding with the EPU (due to costs and success rates for unfertilised eggs). Unfortunately on the day I ended up with a different Dr who was pressuring me to proceed with the EPU before results were back (he knew they were negative but didn't tell me).

My advice is to agree before hand what you would do in this scinario and stick to your guns.

As for the recovery for DH. He didn't take pain killers after 2 days, he was back at work 3 days later, uncomfortable for a week, 3 weeks later completly back to normal.

Best of luck.

I actually have donor sperm as back up. We chose an anonymous donor through Monash. Because my AMH surprisingly come back low as well at 6.9 we thought we would just go ahead and do it all now to avoid issues down the track for example my AMH being even lower and then needing a donor egg etc.

Hopefully he isn't in too much pain!! Hate seeing my man in pain!!!

So tomorrow is the day. I'm nervous about what they will find etc. I know it's all out of my control but I'm sure you can all relate to the fact that its hard not to stress or worry at any time during this process!!
