Ok. I have lost just over 25kg the past 5 months. I am now sitting on 98kg so am still significantly overweight. I so 5 workouts a week, sometimes 6 minimum of 3 sessions cardio plus weights and the others are just cardio and ab work. I can do 5km in 40 - 43 minutes on x trainer, planks are pretty easily done for one minute. I think my cardio fitness is pretty good for my weight. I also use other cardio equipment but the cross trainer is my favourite.

I joined up to start boot camp next week, the gym owner is doing it for me at a special price, only $6 a session. I am terrified.

What can I expect? Is it like biggest loser style pushing random things around etc? What if I can't keep up? What if they are all super fit skinny people and I'm the only fat one. unsure.gif I really really want to do this but all my insecurities about my weight are making me want to just not go.

Has anyone else done this when overweight? Please some success stories!

Train your dog, it's worth it!
I did boot camp for a while, mostly because I busted my foot and I couldn't run - I was probably closer to 80kg at the time, but there were people who were smaller and larger than myself. All shapes and sizes. The trainer took care not to push us beyond our limits, while pushing the 'fitties' a lot harder.

We did short sprints (not me though - more of a fast walk given the state of my foot), lots of core strengthening work, bits of boxing (heaps of fun), and other fun stuff.

Take a water bottle, a towel to sit on/ wipe with, and have fun. Expect to improve as the weeks progress, and don't expect too much from yourself in the first couple of weeks. biggrin.gif

And congratulations on the losses.

Bootcamp is the best thing that has happened to me.
Everyone works at their own level and you can push yourself harder if you want.

You are outside which is brilliant. I would take that over a gym anyday.

Its hard, but great. You work your whole body and they are designed for maximum fat burn.

The one I have been going to for almost a year now is nothing like biggest loser. No yelling at all. Everyone is of different shapes and sizes and fitness levels, but everyone works as a team and encourages you.

I was 120kg when I first started, having lost 25 before I began. I am now at 90. I couldnt even run or do a sit up my first few weeks of bc. Now I am up there with the best of them and improving my fitness and weight loss all the time.

Highly recommend it.
Just make sure you have a great trainer.

I have a friend starting boot camp this week. She is about 30kg overweight so I'm sure there will be people of all different sizes there. Good luck and stop worrying about your weight!

It will cater to all levels and modify whenever you need. I joined one for a week before I injured myself. I have a weak hip and was modifying exercises but it is hard not to do push it when they are yelling that you have to do things the full way to get results. The more you tire the worse technique gets. Just something to be aware of, but I often see groups at the park doing improper lifting techniques and worry for them.

You sound really fit. I'm very jealous of your planking. I'm struggling after about 15 seconds. Keep it up.

I kind of hate the planks. Lol, but really should try holding them a bit longer, but do it for a minute and say yep that's enough. Which is why I need boot camp I think to have someone to push me beyond my comfort zone.

I can jog and run, been doing c25k on and off so not too worried about that aspect. Yet when I started back in August I could barely do the treadmill for ten minutes without being absolutely exhausted. Congrats on your success so far! Its an awesome feeling seeing how far you have come. I'm hoping this gets the weight loss moving a bit quicker too. original.gif

Thanks Spikey, I hope your weight loss is going well too. I stalk the LTL group at times, too forgetful to post all the time and keep up.

You will do great.

Just make sure you have a good trainer who is running a professional operation. You want to be told if your technique is off, last thing you want is injuries from poor technique. The trainer should get you to 'test' too ie marks your measurements, weight, then a basic fitness test so you can compare at the start of the next block how you have improved.

And definately no yelling. Its one thing to be told you only get out what you put in and getting encouragement is great, but you def. dont want someone thinking they are in an army bootcamp and yelling at you.

COngrats on your lost weight and imrpoved fitness so far. Keep up the good work.

I survived!

It was great, I kind of enjoyed it and hated it. lol I kept up ok with them, and could hold planks and wall squats easily. A lot of them were smaller yes, but I am stronger and fitter then them.. biggrin.gif We had to do a circuit style exercise, on the tricep dips I could get 30 of them out. Some of the others stopped half way and had a break. My strength workouts certainly helped me out there I think.

Anyway enough bragging, its just I cannot believe how far I have come the past 6 months, from no exercise and struggling to walk up my driveway to boot camp! Still have a way to go, but I can see the end in sight.

I strongly encourage anyone who is worried about doing something like this because of their weight to just give it a go! I'm already looking forward to the next one!

So glad you enjoyed it Lausii! There's no better feeling than giving something that you're nervous about a go, and finding that you really enjoy it.

By the way, don't feel obliged to keep up with everyone in the LTL thread, you're more than welcome to just stick your head in sometimes and update us with what you're up to original.gif
