Just wondering for any of you out there that only BF once a day if your supply remained (& for how long)?
My 18 month old DS only feeds now once a day before bed but for the last 3 nights it appears my supply has pretty well dried up. He gets very confused & comes off then asks for the other boob...again comes off because there is very little milk & then asks for the other boob again. I have resorted to giving him a bottle of formula to help settle him (not a habit I'm happy with but he refuses water at bedtime & I'm too exhausted to argue). I would have liked him to decide when to stop BF but it seems it won’t be that way |

It's a bit different for me bc I was expressing and not directly feeding but once I got down to expressing once a day my milk production did go quite low, I still got some out but dd started to refuse it which I presume was because it had changed taste. Apparently it can get 'salty" as it dwindles.
I would imagine your child would get out more than a pump. If he will feed it might be best to let him switch from side to side, if he can get more let downs and remove more milk then you will keep making it. He will probably get more out if he has 4 side (or more) rather than just 2. That's if you want to boost production a bit or let it keep dwindling. All the best. |

I breastfed once a day for over 6 months. I'm not sure what my supply did but she never complained. She did switch feed as lucky 2 described.

Mine never did. In fact I have not breastfed for about eight months and I can still express some milk (though not much, admittedly).

A little different, but I breastfed my DS first thing in the morning and then right before bed at night for around 6 months. The only reason we stopped was that we both got sick with gastro. As far as I know my supply was ok.
If you are not happy giving formula why not just cows milk or similar? (Sorry if this is a dumb question!) |

I bf once a day for close to 8 mths with from and then 3 or 4 times a week for a few months after that. I still had milk 6 mths after I stopped nd altogether. I think it just depends on the person. With Dd3, for a good year and a half, on the days I worked she would have one or two bf and when I didn't, would have multiple feeds a day. I never noticed a.change in my supply.

Thanks lucky2 I have never heard of switch feeding before, I will definitely try this tomorrow night.
I still have a little milk, as out of curiosity I tried expressing last night but only got about 5mls from each breast. I haven’t been able to feel the let down for months (since we dropped the morning feed). If you are not happy giving formula why not just cows milk or similar? (Sorry if this is a dumb question!) not a dumb question...DS hates cows milk, we keep offering it to him but he tries it & doesn't like it, so we give him Bellamy's follow on formula instead, hopefully down the track he will like cow’s milk |
